(CLACKAMAS, Ore.) - The following CCC student-athletes have been recognized as Red Lion Players of the Week for their performances during the period Dec. 6-12:
Men’s Basketball Evergreen State College (Wash.) guard Josh Troyer, a 6-3 senior from Vancouver, Wash., has been named the Red Lion Men’s Basketball Player of the Week. Troyer helped lead the Geoducks to a 3-0 record, averaging 20 points and 6.0 rebounds while making 23 of 35 (.657) field goal attempts. After scoring 17 points in an 87-73 non-conference road victory over University of Puget Sound, Troyer tallied 21 points and five rebounds in a CCC win over Corban and added 22 points and 11 rebounds in an 84-82 conference victory over Northwest Christian. Troyer sealed the win over NCU with a pair of free throws in the last minute and a game-preserving blocked shot as time expired. Evergreen improved to 4-8 overall and 2-2 in the CCC. Honorable mention: Austin Dunn, Concordia; Matt Ballenger, College of Idaho; Greg Peters, Northwest; Webster Moreland, Warner Pacific; Quentin Guidry, Northwest Christian.
Women’s Basketball Northwest University (Wash.) center Kia Gibson, a 6-0 senior from Spokane, Wash., has been named the Red Lion Women’s Basketball Player of the Week. Gibson averaged 20.0 points and 7.0 rebounds as the Eagles posted CCC victories over Northwest Christian University (78-59) and Corban University (74-59). Northwest improved to 8-4 overall and 3-1 in the CCC. Gibson had 23 points and nine rebounds in the win over NCU, and added 17 points and five rebounds in the victory over Corban. In the two games, she sank 15 of 23 shots from the field and 10 of 12 from the free throw line. Honorable mention: Katie Steigleman, Corban; Brittany Cherry, Oregon Tech; Nicole Gall, College of Idaho; Kyle Miller, Eastern Oregon; Miranda Holenstein, Warner Pacific; Hope Williams, Northwest Christian.
