Things the BBC Forgot to Ask Jody McIntyre

Brown’s tour de force would have been even more awe-inspiring had he not left out several important questions.

(WASHINGTON D.C.) - BBC anchor Ben Brown has proven himself an ace investigative reporter, revealing during an interview with disabled victim of British police violence Jody McIntyre that the latter has not yet launched an official complaint with the police—despite the fact that the incident occurred several days ago! Thus, McIntyre’s brutal treatment must be a fabrication, even though it is recorded in video footage shown on the BBC.

In case the incident really did happen, Brown accusingly interrogates McIntyre about reports that he wants to start a revolutionary movement and that he was rolling toward police in his wheelchair, obvious provocations that warrant being dragged across asphalt and hit with a baton. He then cuts off McIntyre’s attempt to liken BBC coverage of the tuition fee protests with BBC coverage of the Palestinian issue, both of which focus on blaming violence on the victims.

Brown’s tour de force would have been even more awe-inspiring had he not left out the following important questions for McIntyre:

  1. Why do you care about tuition fees if you’re not in school?
  2. In your poetry you mention something about “coke lines.” Is it possible that you were under the influence of illegal substances when the alleged incident with the police occurred?
  3. If it’s true, as you say, that you can’t operate your wheelchair by yourself, how did you get to the studio today?
  4. The Iranian foreign ministry has also expressed disapproval over police handling of demonstrations in London. Does this mean that you approve of hanging political dissidents?
  5. Has it not occurred to you to thank the metropolitan police for removing you from a potentially dangerous situation?
  6. Speaking of the Palestinians, is that where you learned how to provoke casualties?
  7. Do you have an official doctor’s note certifying that you have cerebral palsy?

Satire can be used effectively yet in this instance it did not come across quite the way you intended. I mean no insult but as the editor of two newspapers when I was younger, I would point out that it always best to have someone read the form of dark satire and see if they understand what you are trying to say. Some will and some won't but that does help you stress or understress the best word placement and overall tone. bless you all and keep up the good fight

This is terrible. You just sound like a serious right wing idiot. There isn't any intelligent satirical comedy writing in here. It's barely sarcasm.

Editor: Matthew, you just don't get it, don't insult our writer when you aren't able to understand!

Wayne Littlewood December 16, 2010 6:07 am (Pacific time)

You lot do realise that this is an article in contempt of the interviewer - in that why didn't he go the whole hog and ask a question such as "How did yo uget to the studio today if you can't push yourself? In other words ALL the questions were fatuous and missed the point of Jody coming on.

Eeesh, isn't satire supposed to be funny? I see what you're getting at, but, don't call Private Eye asking for a job quite yet, you have a lot to learn, young padawan

Belen, some answers to your idiotic questions:

1. We care about other people in our country.
2. I think most sane people would find it highly unlikely that a man with such a disability would be snorting coke at a protest.
3. He has a motorized wheel chair he uses normally. (How you didn't assume that on your own I do not know. Oh maybe you don't realize we care and provide for our disabled people in the UK)
4. What on earth do you mean with this point?
5. Because they removed him from being in his wheel chair in a protest, to being on the floor of a protest?
6. Provoking casualties? explain.
7. Are you saying from the time he was born and diagnosed that he would probably not be able to walk or talk let alone have cerebral palsy was an act?? Good god woman, you're completely nuts.

Editor: Please lighten up, you are missing the point...

Is this sarcastic? I read this article as sarcasm because there is NO WAY this could be genuine.

If it is genuine - I feel extremely sorry for the person who wrote this. "Do you have an official doctor's note certifying that you have cerebal palsy?"

Have just wrote that sentence out, I realise this article must be a joke. Thanks for making me laugh!

Editor: Yes, it is purely satirical, thanks for dropping by.

To faithfulelect: I believe ALL the "questions" suggested by Ms. Fernandez are satirical.

faithfulelect December 15, 2010 8:44 am (Pacific time)

If you do have an education...that remark about proving he has cerebral palsy makes you look like you do not... because my dear I come from only a small amount of medical school and even I can tell you that when a person speaks that way and shakes uncontrollably its cerebral palsy...I would delete that part of your statement as it makes you look as if you side with forces that are dead set upon destroying not only us but you as well. GOD bless you!

Oli Don December 15, 2010 7:49 am (Pacific time)

What right wing fascism is this? Shame. Massive very sad shame on you very stupid people.

Jack Frost December 15, 2010 7:08 am (Pacific time)

A good companion to your article "International activists cause their own deaths by attacking nonconfrontational Israeli commandos". I look forward to your next piece "Baby seal makes suspicious movement; Triggers measured defensive response from local hunter." ;)
