Dec-14-2006 13:17TweetFollow @OregonNews Santa to Handout Candy Canes Saturday in KeizerSalem-News.comThis very special event is scheduled to begin at 9:00 AM.
(KEIZER) - For forty-five years, Santa Claus has made a special trip from the North Pole on a Saturday before Christmas to visit Keizer area children and hand out candy canes. Santa has confirmed he will visit Keizer on Saturday to continue this tradition. Because Santa’s sleigh is being tuned up for his rounds on Christmas Eve, Santa will, once again, be driven around the area by Keizer Fire District fire trucks. They will announce Santa’s arrival on neighborhood streets by sounding their sirens and making announcements on the fire engine PA system. Santa is scheduled to visit most streets in the Keizer Fire District by the end of the day. District officials said the only streets they will not be able to visit are short cul-de-sacs; residents on these streets are encouraged to come to the fire engine when it stops at the end of their street. The Keizer Fire District Volunteers Firefighters Association, sponsor of the event, estimates Santa will distribute about one thousand dollars worth of candy canes (over 7,700 candy canes). The money for the candy canes comes from fund raising events, such as pancake breakfasts, held by the association.
