Through sex ads, the mass media can become a tool for the benefit of those individuals that profit from the human-trafficking market.

(MADRID) - “Your date with pleasure” is a public ad slogan displayed on the buses of the Metropolitan Entity of Transportation of Valencia.

Even though the residents of Valencia have already complaint, public buses continue to display the ads of a prostitution service center.

Within the socio-political sphere, about 80 percent of politicians and 70 percent of citizens are in favor of abolishing the prostitution ads. In the future, this type of advertisement will be prohibited from appearing on the press, whether paper or digital. Thus, these prostitution service centers will be prohibited from advertising on newspapers. This restriction will also apply to audiovisual media.

Now, the Ministry of Finance, as well as public or private judicial organizations and entities will be able to appeal for the abolition of these ads. Its breach will be considered an infringement, according to both the General Law for Consumer’s Defense and the General Law of Health.

Furthermore, the Auxilaries of the Good Pastor Congregation is dedicated to helping women who depend on prostitution and promote advocacy against newpaper firms that allow for the advertising of these service ads. Moreover, the Adoration of the Blessed Sacrament, through the “Erguete” Project, welcome women that are involved in prostitution and provide them with psycological support and job-market orientation.

The President of E-Christians, reminds press managers that prostitution is legal, however, procurement and induction to it is not. He further acknowledges that if Spain achieves the abolition of these ads, then it will have a more effective European integration process; since Spain is the only country in Europe where the press still allows for these type of ads. For example, these ads are prohibited in “The Times”, “Le Figaro”, and “Le Monde”

The Catholic Church’s opinion on prostitution and its advertising is clear. Through sex ads, the mass media can become a tool for the benefit of those individuals that profit from the human-trafficking market. (Translated by Gianna A. Sanchez Moretti).
