Lost Hubcap Fire Burning South of Monument, Oregon

The fire was reported around 1:30 p.m. Friday burning in grass, sagebrush and juniper fuels.

(SALEM, Ore.) - The Lost Hubcap Fire has burned 1,200-1,500 acres nine miles south of the community of Monument in the Central Oregon District's John Day Unit.

The Oregon Department of Forestry has two heavy air tankers, four single-engine air tankers and one helicopter fighting the fire, along with six fire engines, four bulldozers and district hand crews. Additional resources from the South Fork Complex are assisting.

The Monument and John Day Rural Fire departments are successfully protecting residences threatened by the wind-driven fire. Cause of the fire is under investigation.
