TN Woman Immolates Self to Protest Against Hanging of Rajiv Killers

The woman expressed hope that her self-immolation would help to save the lives of the trio.

(CHENNAI Indian Express) - A young woman immolated herself in front of the tehsildar’s office in Kancheepuram district on Sunday evening, allegedly demanding remission of the death penalty awarded to three convicts in the Rajiv Gandhi assassination case who are set to be hanged on September 9.

According to locals, C Senkodi, an unmarried woman in her 20s, shouted slogans against hanging the death row convicts — Sriharan alias Murugan, T Suthentharajan alias Santhan, and G Perarivelan alias Arivu — before emptying a bottle of petrol and setting herself afire.

Though some policemen doused the fire and arranged an ambulance to take her to hospital, Senkodi died on the way.

A note she purportedly wrote was recovered in which she expressed hope that her self-immolation would help to save the lives of the trio. In it, she recalled 26-year-old K Muthukumar who set himself ablaze two years ago, demanding India’s intervention to stop the violence in Sri Lanka.

Hi Sir/Madam,

We are shocked to see an article from hindu in salem-news.com (http://www.salem-news.com/articles/august282011/india-executions.php) You might be aware as the whole of state of Tamilnadu is fighting for Justice to save the 3 innocent lives who have been sentenced to death. At the same time, there are fascist movements with anti human and particularly racial and anti tamils ageda operating in support of Tamil Genocide.... And Hindu magazine and it's editor Ram is well know for racial/fascist thoughts and supports the war criminal Rajapaksha and sponsored by Rajapaksha family.... It would be really demeaning for www.salem-news.com to publish an article from such an un-ethical and racist person.

Editor: I think it is clear where we stand on the issues regarding the Tamil Genocide, we are the only western agency that stays on top of the issue. I admit I was not aware of the circumstances and trust that we care deeply about what happened in Sri Lanka. We are not supporters of Rajapaksa, this story is only about the three on death row. He is talking as if he is against death penalty.. But he all the more tries to convince everyone that they deserve to be hanged.. How cunning Mr.Ram!!!!! We know you and you will have to answer all the sins you are committing now in the name of media reporting... Shame on Salem-News for publishing this article declaring innocents as criminals...
