(LONDON) - Hundreds of people took to twitter yesterday to ask the Government of Sri Lanka where Prageeth Ekneligoda is. They were responding to a campaign launched by the Sri Lanka Campaign for Peace and Justice to help track down the journalist who has been missing for 19 months to the day. Prageeth was abducted on 24 January 2010 and has not been heard from since. He was an outspoken supporter of Gen. Sarath Fonseka, who ran for the opposition against the government in the 2010 elections. There is still no news of his whereabouts or fate and his abductors are still at large. There has been a distinct lack of a thorough and credible investigation into Prageeth’s disappearance. His wife Sandhya has received almost no response to her repeated requests for information about her husband's fate. Edward Mortimer, Chair of the Sri Lanka Campaign for Peace and Justice, said: "By tweeting to the Government of Sri Lanka we might have stirred then into action. But even if that is too much to hope we can and must keep up the search and make sure he is not forgotten. The longer his disappearance remains uninvestigated the more the finger of suspicion must point at the Government itself. Our action at least shows them their behaviour has not gone unnoticed." Fred Carver, Campaign Director of the Sri Lanka Campaign for Peace and Justice, said: "The response has been incredible. By noon (GMT) people had tweeted the campaign to over twenty four thousand of their followers. Former Beirut hostage Charles Glass used one of his first ever tweets to promote the campaign and organisations such as English PEN, the South Asia Free Media Association, and The Index on Censorship have been delighted to get on board" For more information about the disappearance of Prageeth see: http://www.englishpen.
