(PORTLAND, Ore.) - Unseen, unheard; no one should be the bearer of these two words. Unfortunately, Africa is often in the forefront of this association. Our common humanity should change this; we should never look away because it is too distant. Our commitment to one another, to human rights, and the ability to learn should always keep us connected no matter the severity and complexity of problems. Important insights from last week, not to be missed: Niger: Selling Sand to Survive - endurance. A group of 200 women are making ends meet - sometimes even a bit more - by selling sand. They are known in Niamey, the Nigerien capital, as "takalakoyes"; the name, in the local language, Zarma, refers to the wooden poles, a calabash full of sand at each end, that the women carry on their shoulders from dawn till dusk. Thousands to Flee in Western Equatoria - allafrica.com Alysha Atma spends many hours working on projects that support and benefit the beleaguered people of African nations who spend way too much time off the western media's radar. This writer explains that she is a culmination of all her experiences, most importantly knowledge she says, and all that she still needs to learn; lessons of love, laughter and the extraordinary giving of both young and old. She says she has the enormous fortune of learning from the best; every person around her, and the amazing strength and fortitude of those she has never met but will always strive to listen to. "I continue to work and write because I believe in the power of community and the power of one, both contradictory to each other and yet can move together in a very powerful way. I feel a responsibility to use my place, freedoms and connections here in the US to stand up and yell for those who need my voice and actions. I have seen such strength in my fellow humans that I cannot even begin to comprehend, they have traveled distances, have gone without food, water, shelter and safety for days and weeks at a time. I have a responsibility as a fellow human to put our common humanity before anything else. Everyone deserves to look towards tomorrow, to dream of a safe future and to have a peaceful present." Is anyone getting this yet? 1. There is enough food to feed everyone, but those in power dont want to spend the money to get the food to them. They would rather spend it on useless illegal wars to build their empire. Sorry salem-news, but Obama is just their puppet. 2. Those in power believe in eugenics, and the more people that die support their mission. 3. Next, this is not about whether 1 and 2 above are correct, the evidence is overwhelming. But they do have the think tanks, and the harvard, yale princeton, and all the scientists etc, so maybe they are right. kill off everyone, build an empire and control the people and world peace will finally be achieved. This, my friends, is what you need to decide. I believe it has come to a point, where people need to choose. For me, I choose liberty, the Constitution, freedom, and truth. Keep in mind, the side I disagree with, has kept food, medicine etc, from many countries, to establish their agenda. The wars on terror, war on drugs, war on poverty accomplished nothing but more havoc.
