Reverend Benny & Mister Sid's At Your Service #58

Men who think they're God's gift to women.

Benny and Sid #58
By Glen Bledsoe

(Salem) - I really should have done a strip about the health care debate -- if you can call shouting down speakers at health care meetings a debate.

It reminds me of the people who complain about their doctors or lawyers or whichever occupation at the moment seems fair game for complaint. One moment they stomp their feet and act indignant.

However, the moment one of these complainers gets cancer or needs a heart transplant, they sing this song: "Oh, Doctor Save Me!" or "Lawyer, Protect my Rights!" or "Plumber, Unstop My Drain!" Their critique is quickly forgotten while the doctor or lawyer or plumber goes about his or her job.

These wing-nuts who want to deny others of health-care might one day find they don't have health care either and may pick up a different songbook.

It's a Republican-Right Wing snow job proving that Lincoln was wrong. You can fool most (if not all) the people most of the time.

The Republicans really know how to bring out the worst in America. I cringe every time I hear someone say, "I don't see why I should have to pay for someone's health care when they didn't earn it."

That's hardly a Christian attitude now is it? The guys who walk around with WWJD lanyards need to stop thinking about Christ as their Home Boy but as spiritual master whose example they should follow.

Well, this comic isn't even about health care and only marginally about would-be Christians. It's about men who think they're God's gift to women. Take a deep breath--it's not about Republicans either. Mainly, anyway.

What do we do for people with no health care? The system as it stands is an embarrassment for a developed nation. Think of the number of Americans living in rural areas with no health care. Competition is not a magic wand which will solve all problems. Look at banks.

I am a registered Independent and I went to a townhall meeting that was in Rep. Baird's district. Everyone was polite but some had to literally talk at the top of their lungs to be heard. People were there of all political ideologies and the majority of them that I talked to were familiar with the house bill on national health. They do not want that bill in its current form. Frankly by allowing for the free interstate commerce for insurance sales to happen, that would drive down costs immediately because of competition. For example it costs far more for insurance in New Jersey than next door in Pennsylvania because of all the rules and fees that New Jersey has. All the states thru their own insurance boards heap up so much regulation that it drives up costs. Also doing something about Tort Reform would also drive down costs. We can address the needs of those who cannot afford insurance on a case by case basis, but we want to keep our own plans that we have now. So yeah, I will continue to let my congressman and senators know my feelings. They work for us and their is a national mandate for them to go by. This is an American issue, not one political party. Look what's happened so quickly: Nationalized the banks. Nationalized the auto industry. Nationalize health care (they're trying). Who would have dreamed it could happen so quickly?

It's real simple math: The democrats do not need the republicans to pass the healthcare legislation. So what's the problem? I recall quite clearly past behaviors of other points of [political] views that were pretty violent at times. When you see the number of senior citizens upset at these townhall meetings, I would suggest that they have a right to voice their opinions, many of these people have read the HOUSE bill and are afraid of what they have read.
