(NEWPORT) - Coast Guard Sector/Air Station North Bend, responded to a distress call early Thursday morning from a 45-foot fishing vessel that was taking on water, about four and a half miles west of Alsea Bay.

A Coast Guard spokesman says their North Bend rescue station received a distress call on VHF channel 16 at 1:30 AM. The call came in from the master of the fishing vessel Paradise, stating that they were taking on water and in need of assistance.

The Coast Guard Air Facility at Newport, launched an HH-65 Dolphin helicopter crew to assist and a 47-foot motor lifeboat crew from Coast Guard Station Yaquina Bay, was also dispatched to the area.

The crew of the 47-foot motor lifeboat passed a dewatering pump to the Paradise.

The Paradise was dewatered and safely towed back to Yaquina Bay.
