(SALEM, Ore. ) - A two alarm fire Friday night caused heavy damage to the rear portion of a single story home in NE Salem.

As Salem-News.com was first to report, and was on scene as Salem firefighters fought the tough, raging fire located at 3325 Arbon Street, firefighters had to chop down a neighbors fence to battle the blaze.

Salem Fire Department spokesman Laird Case said firefighters were called to the home around 9:45 p.m. by neighbors who called 9-1-1, after they saw flames shooting out of the windows from the rear of the home.

First arriving units, found the fire on the backside of the home was fully involved and also burning a shed in the backyard of the home, and called in a second alarm. Case said crews were able to contain the fire to the rear portion of the house, which neighbors told Salem-News.com was vacant, did have some household item inside it, Case said.

Firefighters were able to get the fire under control, and out around midnight.

One firefighter was taken to Salem Hospital by ambulance Case said for an unknown injury, and is expected to make a full recovery.

The cause of the fire remains under investigation.
