President Obama Must Act

The President needs to reduce our national debt and preserve the best of our Social programs.

Barack Obama
Barack Obama

(PASO ROBLES, Calif.) - President Obama cannot talk himself out of Afghanistan and Iraq; he must act.

NBC's Richard Engel

He listens too much to General Patreaes and not enough to the people he leads; nor to Richard Engle, our greatest reporter on the Arab World the nations on which he reports because he speaks their language. He is a brave man, and honest too.

Ron Reagan, son of the late president Reagan, and Chris Matthews, both today asked Barack Obama, as Commander in Chief, to end the war because it is a lost cause. If we must fight, let’s do it here.

If they are willing, troops could take jobs at home in support of first responders to emergencies of every sort; the U.K. comes immediately to mind. If we do not suffer its fate, it might be because we have the manpower who, with a little training, could control such situations.

Rep. Barney Frank made that point with which I agree. Lindsay Graham and John McCain would disapprove, but I wonder if they speak for the Tea Party which wants desperately to reduce our national debt.

I can think of no better way for the President to demonstrate his sincerity in the interest of our nation and his reelection, than to convince the Republicans of his willingness to reduce our national debt and preserve the best of our Social programs.

Kenneth G. Ramey, Salem-News.com's Religion and Philosophy Writer, confronts the hard issues of politics and religion from a logical point of view that combines interesting insight with history into the truth, or lack thereof, that underlies the strengths and weaknesses of the Religious Right’s determination to use American politics for its own misguided, or selfish, interest. It’s rare for a writer to balance his writing between religious values and the secular guarantees of the Constitution and the Bill of Rights with the knowledge that Ken possesses, and to do it so effectively.

Ken was born in Minnesota but was raised in California since 1932. He is the youngest of four boys raised by his mother alone during the dark years of the Great Depression. He Graduated from SFSU in the 1970s when in his mid-forties, majoring in Spanish North American History, and added three years of post-graduate study, much of it in Philosophy and Religion. We live at a critical time in history and believe Ken's views represent the view of many who are tired of the commercialism and false interpretations about religion today. Your points excellent and clearly expressed, Ken...but never expect any kind, level, sort or other compromising actions of change from those who now masquerade as Republicans and "conservatives: These now are a special breed with specific and deadly-for-democracy turns and twists in what passes for brain tissue, ordinarily affected by the basic principles of both reason and ethics. "They" lack the well-known and demanded capacities in both areas of fundamental mental processes, as much solidly-based and reported cognitive research have shown over the past thirty years. What we now encounter is a special off-shooting breed of random- action reactionaries first formed and then further distorted by the definitive most-damaging mental-myth given its early impetus via that "Government IS the Problem !" line --denying the most basic concept of any control for the massively mischievious and often malign worst works found in human nature, starting with selfish (read: "libertarian") sentiment such as those of Ayn Rand. Comments appreciated for further demonstration of precisely the points just made...

Only a very few words Ken but they speak volumes! You have managed to cut to the quick and present what appears to be a great first step to resolving some of the problems we currently face. Well done sir!
