(NEWPORT, Ore.) - Police say six people were injured, one critically, in a head on traffic collision on Thursday, August 6th about 7:00 a.m. Senior Trooper Carla Urbigkeit of the Newport Area Command, says a 1998 Ford passenger car was westbound on Highway 20 at about milepost 32 when it drifted onto the right shoulder and struck the guardrail. "It then veered into the oncoming lane where it struck an eastbound 2005 Pontiac van head on," Urbigkeit said. The operator of the Ford, 20-year old Lindsay Winter, was transported by ambulance to Good Samaritan hospital in Corvallis. Her passenger, 20-year old Andrew McMurtery, was air-lifted by Reach to Good Samaritan hospital in Corvallis and is in critical condition. The operator of the Pontiac, 47-year old Sandra Sudhop, was transported by ambulance along with her two daughters, 8-year old Samara Sudhop, and 17-year old Sarina Purer, to Good Samaritan hospital.
Sudhop's husband, 47-year old John Sudhop, was extricated and transported via Life Flight to Good Samaritan hospital. Urbigkeit says the Sudhop's were on vacation from British Columbia and had just left Beverly Beach State Park, heated to Crater Lake. "All four occupants of the Pontiac sustained serious injuries, as did the driver of the Ford, and are being treated in Corvallis." OSP was assisted at the scene by Lincoln County SO, Newport PD, Toledo fire and Rescue, Newport Fire and Rescue, and other agencies. The crash investigation continues and criminal charges are being investigated.
