Man's Body Found in Newport July 18th Positively Identified

33-year old William Eric Switzer of Lake Oswego had arrived by bus in Newport on July 16th.

(NEWPORT, Ore.) - Oregon State Police detectives working with the Lincoln County Medical Examiner have identified the body of an adult male found July 18th on the ocean beach north of Agate Beach Wayside as a Lake Oswego man. Investigators believe the man died from a self-inflicted gunshot head wound. On July 18th at approximately 6:00 AM, a report was received that a person jogging on the ocean beach north of Agate Beach Wayside discovered the body of a fully clothed deceased male.

The male had a gunshot wound to the right temple area and the death was initially considered suspicious. There was no identification with the body.

A photograph of a unique tattoo and physical description was released to the media. A tip was phoned into the OSP Northern Command Center tip line by the man's roommate after seeing the tattoo photograph. Follow up investigation identified the man as 33-year old William Eric Switzer of Lake Oswego, and confirmed he had arrived by bus in Newport on July 16th. Next of kin have been notified.
