(OAKLAND, Calif.) - A routine mechanical inspection of Talgo railcars used in the operation of Amtrak Cascades trains had resulted in a service suspension for the route in the Pacific Northwest through Sunday.

Amtrak is dispatching substitute railcars to the area, and limited restoration of the suspended service is expected to begin on Monday.

One exception to the Amtrak Cascades suspension on the route is that Amtrak will continue to operate trains 510 and 517 between Seattle and Vancouver, B.C. utilizing Superliner train equipment.

No alternate transportation is available on the Amtrak Cascades route during the suspension.

Amtrak regrets the inconvenience, is notifying affected passengers and is providing refunds for unused tickets.

Amtrak will announce the schedules for restoration of limited service as soon as possible.

Amtrak Cascades is operated by Amtrak under contracts with the Washington and Oregon Departments of Transportation.

Under contract, Talgo has responsibility for the integral maintenance of Talgo rolling stock, and these maintenance operations are performed in Seattle.

Normally, Amtrak Cascades consists of four daily round-trips between Portland and Seattle, with service between Bellingham, Wash., and Portland, via Seattle, between Eugene and Seattle, via Portland, and between Seattle and Vancouver, B.C.

Operation of the Amtrak Coast Starlight (Trains 11 & 14) and Amtrak Empire Builder (Trains 7/27 & 8/28) to and from Portland and Seattle continues without interruption.
