Oregon Gov. John Kitzhaber Becomes Engaged

Kitzhaber is now running for a historic fourth term as Oregon's governor.

(SALEM, Ore. ) - Oregon Governor John Kitzhaber has become engaged to his longtime companion Cylvia Hayes the governor's office said on Tuesday.

Kitzhaber spokeswoman Melissa Navas said the two have not set a wedding date. Hayes lives with the governor, and has been the state's official first lady since Kitzhaber took office for his third term in 2011. Both have been divorced twice.

Kitzhaber, 67, and Hayes, who turns 47 later this month, began dating after Hayes unsuccessfully ran for a state House seat in Bend in 2002. Hayes is currently a sustainability consultant and senior fellow at the Clean Economy Development Center.

Kitzhaber is now running for a historic fourth term as Oregon's governor. He will face Republican nominee Dennis Richardson of Central Point.
