(PORTLAND, Ore.) - The discovery of a nude female body on a dirt road near Highway 30 Sunday morning, has led to a homicide investigation in Multnomah County.

Two people walking their dogs Sunday at 11:00 AM on Highway 30 near milepost 16.5, stumbled upon what they believed was a body while heading up an unmaintained road that intersects Hwy 30.

Lt. Jason Gates, Public Information Officer for the Multnomah County Sheriff's Office, says the dogs became interested in a specific area. Upon closer examination the reporting persons discovered the remains and called 911.

Deputies arrived to find a nude white female deceased. It was initially speculated that the remains were that of a youger female, though not those of a child.

Gates says that although the remains are not badly decomposed, "it is too early to estimate how long she has been at the location." They have established identity, but her name has not been released to the public.

"We are not releasing her identity at this time to ensure the integrity of the investigation and until her family has been notified. The investigation is still being treated as a homicide pending results of the autopsy which is scheduled for tomorrow morning." Gates says detectives will be working this case throughout the night. "Tomorrow morning, members of the Vehicle Crimes Team will perform a total station mapping of the scene followed by MCSO SAR personnel who will conduct a ground grid search of the scene."

The Multnomah County Major Crimes Team (MCSO, Gresham PD, Fairview PD, and Troutdale PD) have approximately ten detectives assigned to the initial stages of this investigation which is being treated as a homicide. They ask that anyone who may have knowledge of this crime or who may have observed any suspicious activity in this area in the last week to contact the MCSO Tip Line at 503-261-2847.
