(BEND, Ore.) - Three famed authoritative writers, all from broadly-based political and cultural backgrounds, now see our nation on the very edge of economic, social and cultural degradation, due primarily to the absolute contempt for the Constitution demonstrated by our current President Bush.
"America as the land of opportunity has passed into history," says Paul Craig Roberts, Reagan Administration Asst. Secretary of Treasury, former Editorial Page editor for the WALL STREET JOURNAL and NATIONAL REVIEW, longtime "true conservative" leader.
"The U. S. economy continues its 21st Century decline, even as the Bush Regime outfits its B-2 stealth bombers with 30,000-pound monster 'bunker-buster' bombs for its coming attack on Iran."
"In grasping and exercising Presidential powers, Cheney has dulled political accountability and concocted theories for evading the law and Constitution that would have embarrassed King George III", states Bruce Fein of SLATE, famed online magazine of the Washington POST.
Fein, too, is deeply "true conservative". He was associate deputy attorney general under President Ronald Reagan and was a member of the ABA Task Force on presidential signing statements.
Then comes also Stephen Crockett: "The United States has been in a prolonged Constitutional crisis since the Supreme Court showed it had been corrupted by partisan politics when the Bush vs. Gore ruling was issued in December 2000." Crockett is co-host of Democratic TalkRadio.com.
All agree, by direct statement or extremely clear and obvious implication, that an overwhelming fear across the world is for "the Bush-hand on the A-button"...literally threatening the continuing existence of us all. The dark, malign Cheney-shadow cast over all Bush-postures adds very threatening weight built from well-known past events.
Each writer makes his case with an exceptionally full and contemporaneous, comprehensive outlay of actions, attitudes, statements and continuing "clear Presidential directions" to Congress and publicly --leaving no possible question unanswered with clear historical statements firmly "on the record" --for any answer we really need-now.
Surely, taken together, their world-view and detailed insights into our current status as a nation --AND "the democratic leader of the world!"-- should be useful to all of us at this very demanding moment in our own history, and that of our world.
My purpose here is to summarize and present for your own cogitation what those three have shown fully and persuasively in their own public statements. My hope is that it will focus your attention exclusively and exquisitely, for the next few reading-moments, on precisely what our early-21st Century American History will now necessarily show in politically-provocative terms:
Providing there IS ANY further American history!
The truth is that fear for our future, in this Atomic Age, MUST and definitely DOES shape and drive the entire political, economic and cultural continuance of any and all situations, events, considerations --and policies!!-- for every nation on Earth.
How can it be otherwise, after Hiroshima and Nagasaki?
With many more than original-casualties of 120,000, as the painful-lingering death-bringing rays did their work over months, after American usage of the ultimate weapon for whatever reasons, can it ever be otherwise?
We, the world's best pattern for potential democracy in their own homeland --for every other developing nation literally on Earth-- did unleash that ultimately most-horrifying hell-on-Earth blast against "our enemies" at the time.
Why should the world ever trust us NOT to "do-it-again"? How have we demonstrated and earned their trust in our credibility since?
What are we doing --right now!!-- not far removed from the former site of world-notorious widespread devastation and death?
This, too --as well as our own ongoing interior struggle vs those few determined to denigrate and demount our own democracy, for their own malign (and dollar-driven world-empire purposes) is clearly seen and taken into full account all across this Earth.
When they read our Constitution, offered to them as a model for their own consummation of the overwhelming search for real democracy, they will find our Founders included a remedy for "corrupt, dictatorial members of the Executive and Judicial Branches of government" --as Crockett correctly and concisely points out.
He continues: "The Bush Administration began by Republican politicians thumbing their noses at the rule of low. The past seven years have been an unending assault on Constitutional government, American political tradition, and personal freedom."
"Because Bush is willing to misuse his Presidential powers and the Supreme Court has been packed with radical, partisan Republican appointees, only impeachment hearings will reveal to the public the abuses of the Bush White House. Only impeachment will bring these powerful criminals to justice and preserve the Constitutional rule of law."
Fein puts it this way: "...President George W. Bush outsourced the lion's share of his presidency to Vice President Cheney, and Mr. Cheney has made the most of it. Since 9/11, he has proclaimed that all checks and balances and individual liberties are subservient to the President's commander in chief powers in confronting international terrorism."
Let's let Paul Craig Roberts add "the last word"; he has surely earned it after all those years of "true conservative" service to the nation, both at national level and in constructive media-publication: "...America is becoming a feudal society in which the super-rich compete in conspicuous consumption, while the serfs struggle merely to survive."
SO...What do YOU think? Has the time come for our own rapid action --perhaps actually "to save our world"?
Can we any longer wait for the right moment to apply that Constitutional remediation our Founders so foresightedly built into our beginnings-for-democracy?

I hang my head to think just this time last year I was touting the likes of Obama-Pelosi, or any of them now that Jan. has come and been buried. The collapse was like the Wold Trade Centers, a well planned controlled detonated implosion from the bottom up. We have been lied to by every one of them. Those few who may not have been "in the know" have no leg to stand on now. In an article printed in the Oregonian months ago Gov. Ted Kulangoski had the guts to call it for what it was, saying the troops in Afghanistan were there because of Oil. This administration has plans longer than our lives.

To all: Nice to find NY TIMES with same point re Bush contempt for Constitutional format of our once-democratic governance system: Editorial The Fear of Fear Itself It was appalling to watch over the last few days as Congress — now led by Democrats — caved in to yet another unnecessary and dangerous expansion of President Bush’s powers, this time to spy on Americans in violation of basic constitutional rights. Many of the 16 Democrats in the Senate and 41 in the House who voted for the bill said that they had acted in the name of national security, but the only security at play was their job security. "See with own eyes" via simple visit to NY T own website.

To all: Cited from InfLrHsNewsletter today, the anniversary of Hiroshima bomb. Google for URL, too long.) "I BELIEVE that God wants me to be president." George W. Bush. "I would like to thank Providence and the Almighty for choosing me of all people to be allowed to wage this battle for Germany," Hitler - Berlin March, 1936

you are right Vic, the Army sergeant did "participate" by admittedly acting as a lookout while this carnage went on, but the actual perppatrators were let off with sentences of one to fifteen years. No argument intended. The "pre-emtive strike" mentality innaugerated by the Bushites was, as you are aware, basically permission from on high to kill anyone in the area of operations regardless of that persons reasons for being there. Prior to this, the "rules of engagement", as in to return fire only when fired upon, were implemented to keep civilian deaths from occuring. I feel completely bad over these ongoing crimes. It's made me a bit crazy I'm afraid.,losing my sense of objectivity as the truth gets flushed down the drain. Thanks for your comment, I am probably on your side.

To all: Please note my error in year for NATION magazine cited in Reader's Note. Reads 2007 -but should be 2002. In 2002, this article was already citing multitudinous Bush-regime and Congressional actions making possible the Enron and other huge corporate wrongdoings, multiplied since.
Vic August 5, 2007 12:22 pm (Pacific time)
By the way, I absolutely agree with the comments by S. LaMarche ..just pointing out the "participation" thing..
Vic August 5, 2007 12:19 pm (Pacific time)
Just for the record, the soldier did participate, by standing outside the door and acting as a lookout. I dare say that if your daughter was raped , you would consider someone who helped plan it, and stood lookout during the act..just a few feet away, a participant. I know I would. That being said, excellent article, Henry !

Millions worldwide are now learning malign consequences of corporate rule, with both Bush regimes and Reagan major new starting points for return to feudalistic takeover by the rich-few via CEOs and inbuilt corporate culture itself. Educational system K-12 and through graduate level is now main target to guarantee more salary serfs, fewer famed U.S. entrepreneurial small-business partnerships and family-owned. Yes!, a fine idea., and may all the millionaire politicos running for office hang their heads in shame for the circus they preside over, while the "collateral damage" goes on unchecked, killing "theirs" and "ours" till I can't believe a God Damn thing they say. They have stolen America. Or maybe I just woke up to what has been done decades ago. It's wrong, illegal, and the criminals walk free or continue to "serve" the pleasure of the president regardless of their actions. An Army Sergeant was sentenced to 110 years for conspiricy to rape and murder in Iraq though he didn't participate in this atrocity. G.W.B.? What is yoour fate mr. president?. mr. Cheney?., mr. Wolfawitz?,mr. Armitage.,Libby.,Pelosi., Rice?, Petreus?,Pace?,Gonzales?,?,mr. Silverstein of World Trade Center fame?,Yuo have all benifitted and all done nothing to stop what you all organised and executed in oreder to "serve " the presiding dictator. Impeaching the lot would be a good start.
