Apr-29-2010 20:40TweetFollow @OregonNews Blue Nile: US Complacency Encourages GoS StrengthALYSHA ATMA Salem-News.comAccording to those on ground in Sudan the sentiment is “The US better have a good plan.”
(KHARTOUM / PORTLAND) - In Sudan, humanity has not come before politics. The U.S. government has allowed and honored a genocidal regime to run, and win a fraudulent election full of intimidation and deception. Human atrocities, genocide, arrest warrants and starving; all terms that have been used by the US government over the last several years to describe the situation in Sudan that they are now endorsing. Yet still, a massive effort of support was given to the GoS during what should have been a monumental and joyous freedom of democracy for the people of Sudan; to finally divert themselves away from dictatorship. The consequences of this support will, and are already being witnessed all of the country. The US government has been complacent, supporting the government of Sudan (GoS), all but giving them the stamp of approval. The GoS has had access to millions of US tax dollars, the highest of government officials and their inability to make a decision solely on the grounds of morality. Recent reports have suggested that the National Congress Party (NCP) has begun to deploy many military troops in the area of Blue Nile, Sudan. Sources close to this reporter have confirmed saying “tensions after tensions are building.” The feeling by many is that the NCP is making obvious threats and declarations of war. Monday, April 19 Yassir Arman announced the clear victory of Milik Aagar as governor of the state of Blue Nile; the numbers released are below. After another recount the NCP has agreed to the victory. The total number of the votes cast in favour of Malik Agar was recorded to be “107,517” votes while total number of votes for his opponent, Farah Agar was recorded to be “93,665” votes. The difference between the two contestants was recorded at “13,852” votes[1]. The military influx into Blue Nile is still very much present after a week. Recent reports suggest that as many as 6000 military personnel are present. Many came into the state posed as civilians or police and are now dressed in full military garb. The reasons given for their presence was to help with security during the election process, many are asking why their continued presence is still necessary. "The information we have is that there is a build up" in Blue Nile state, said Yasser Arman, the ruling National Congress Party (NCP) "is sending forces... military forces. We are cautious," Arman told reporters in Khartoum[2]. According to sources the marked presence of the military force has caused tensions to run high, particularly due to the increase in “advanced weapons and artillery, they have come in and dominate the area. This is unconstitutional and a breach of the CPA (Comprehensive Peace Agreement)”. My best assessment is they are staying so they don’t lose the state to SPLM if something happens. The NCP military should leave immediately. I believe they are waiting for the SPLM to react to their presence, when that happens it will give them an excuse to take over. – Martin BuBa References: [1] SPLM declares that Malik Agar has won Blue Nile’s Elections Goss Mission - USA [2] Ex-rebels say Sudan regime deployed army in tense region - AFP ======================================================= Alysha Atma spends many hours working on projects that support and benefit the belegured people of African nations who spend way too much time off the western media radar. This writer explains that she is a culmination of all her experiences, most importantly knowledge she says, and all that she still needs to learn; lessons of love, laughter and the extraordinary giving of both young and old. She says she has the enormous fortune of learning from the best; every person around her, and the amazing strength and fortitude of those she has never met but will always strive to listen to. "I continue to work and write because I believe in the power of community and the power of one, both contradictory to each other and yet can move together in a very powerful way. I feel a responsibility to use my place, freedoms and connections here in the US to stand up and yell for those who need my voice and actions. I have seen such strength in my fellow humans that I cannot even begin to comprehend, they have traveled distances, have gone without food, water, shelter and safety for days and weeks at a time. I have a responsibility as a fellow human to put our common humanity before anything else. Everyone deserves to look towards tomorrow, to dream of a safe future and to have a peaceful present." Personally because of my own Budhist-neo-ancient secret armegeddion thiesm, pray that they all drop dead the same day.,of natural causes of course, or possibly an unintended detonation from weapons purchased from the pentagon's raytheon or general electric departments, just to fulfill the karma card. Thank you very much.

Hypocrite! Proves my point, thank you. You wouldn’t have the guts to show what i said. Isn’t this what your accusing the GoS is doing. Ha Mr. democratic editor
Editor: Sam, you are pro-Bashir, that is pro-genocide, therefore you have no rights here. We don't carry comments from Zionists or Nazi's a great deal of the time, so you aren't alone. In a business setting, there is no Democratic process pal, it's sort of like Sudan in that way.

You can be a little fair in your reporting...
Editor: And you can take a hike right off the end of a pier. You will NEVER insult our writers here and if you back a genocidal government, that is your sick little issue to deal with, not mine sammy.

I hate to say this, but the political environment, as well as the ongoing situation in this country will never change. No Western super power will get involved unless there is financial interests involved, and even then most of that money will never see the light of day when it comes back to local internal investment. Countries all over the world have tried to change it in some way or another, but in the end, it's the deep down roots of their border line medieval political agenda's that is effecting the whole country. As long as those particular people (who are in control in that country) are left in power to absorb every last drop of their resources, then this country, and many others in Africa will not benefit from it. Public investment is the way forward for any country. Places like this strive on " take take take" and nothing given back in to their people as well as their economy, and sadly many people live in to much fear to question, let alone fight back on such reforms!.
