Salem Wins $60 Million Grant For Kroc Community Center

(SALEM) - It's good news for Salem! The city of Salem has won a $60 million grant to build a new Salvation Army Community Center in northeast Salem.

Salem was one of six cities to share in a $375 million bequest from McDonalds heiress Joan Kroc.

Salem`s community center will be built on nearly 11-acres near the Salem Parkway.

The city is also developing a 21-acre nature park next to the community center site.

Amenities will include: swimming pools, arts and crafts room, a gymnasium, library, dance and aerobics studio, a seniors lounge, and teen center.

The grant provides $30 million for construction and an additional $30 million for operating costs.
