(SALEM) - Few American cities have the intimate, historic downtown setting that Oregon`s capitol city has kept for so long. No major rush, safe streets, free parking and a new convention center are just a few of the amenities that this architecturally significant NW city offers. The Salem Downtown Association and Salem Electric wanted to let the world know more about the confluence of history and art in Oregon`s capitol city, so they contracted Rebecca Maitland of Western Media and Tim King of Northwind Video Artists to craft a two and a half-minute production that could be sent out as a DVD, and streamed on the Web from numerous points. Several weeks were spent in shooting and production, and the DVD features many of the downtown area`s finer points. These range from the beauty of the early buildings, to the convenience of the downtown layout, shopping opportunities, respect for and inclusion of the natural environment and of course the many expressions of art present throughout downtown. Tim King says Salem is on the cutting edge with the new DVD, `pulling ahead of other cities not just in the Northwest, but throughout the nation and the world. We may not be the biggest city in Oregon, but we are making a serious statement about why life here is better in so many ways, and how it ties back to downtown and Salem`s local merchants." Maitland credits the forward thinkers of the Downtown Association and Salem Electric, a local utility company. She says their support and vision will now allow the capitol city`s downtown art and history to continue to thrive and grow, while introducing Salem`s vision to the world. The video will be available on a number of Web sites in Salem and Oregon and beyond. The DVDs will also be produced and utilized by downtown merchants to promote the quality and character of the downtown Salem experience and provide visitors a reason to place Salem, Oregon in their travel plans. It's a short distance for such a long journey back in time, with all the amenities of today's modern world at your fingertips. Salem. Watch the STREAMING VIDEO on downtown Salem below. A wonderful documentary, I especially loved how you transitioned the present with the past. I can't wait to see Salem after viewing this. Thank you.
