Apr-21-2011 23:01TweetFollow @OregonNews North & South Korea Must Push Toward Peace: Window of Opportunity Still OpenAdrian de Villiers for Salem-News.comThe North and South need to re-unite as one people as they were in the beginning.
(SEOULE, South Korea) - North Korea went to war against South Korea in 1950. The USA assisted the South, China assisted the North, and a stalemate was declared in 1953. There were very serious tensions between China & USA post 1953, but the two eventually became each other's biggest trade partners with the influence of very sharp American & Chinese politicians thus neutralizing any threat of war between the two nations, because of their co-dependence on each other financially. Hopefully American, Chinese, North & South Korean politicians of today will realize the power of diplomacy & money when used for good and not for rockets, bombs and bullets, and realize America & South Korea must do the same with North Korea, in terms of building a bridge with each other to do business and not war! North Korean nuclear ambitions are driven by fear and insecurity; that's why the sanctions have done nothing, sanctions work where a country's policy are driven by arrogance, greed and disrespect for different ethnic groups, like what South Africa had under the apartheid era which is similar to Israel's racist attitude towards the Palestinian Arabs of today, seeing Israel help themselves to their water and the best of the land breeding violent extremism! This is the solution for this conflict: Again, it comes down to the power of non violent, unbiased diplomacy and doing what's right in spite of the wrongs perpetrated by the other side; a lesson Mandela taught us post release from jail; a lesson Gandhi taught us in India and Martin Luther King in America. The North and South need to re-unite as one people as they were in the beginning before the painful split. South Korea must realise the importance of doing this and soon, before its too late in spite of recent events and the North Korean nuclear arsenal, and realise the power they have to achieve this with the wealth they have. OK, South Korea has sent food in the past and the North still shows serious aggression towards the South with its military, but the South must realise nothing comes easy in life, especially peace and they must not give up. The South must continue to help the North despite recent events and do everything it can to build this bridge to unite the people and make peace while their is still a window of opportunity and stop playing games looking for apologies and trying to force disarmament. First, push forward and build the bridge and when the trade ties are strong, peace will come, and the only fighting will be about trade agreements and not human lives being lost, like today between China and America. War would see both sides obliterated including America because of long range ballistic nuclear warheads. It would amount to a war of pushing buttons and these army helicopters and army personnel will not be able to protect the people from a absolute disaster. Only a bridge of business and trade between the two nations will provide a platform for protection and peace and see North Korea once again begin to prosper and the painful split of the past which saw the Korean Elders who were one family before the war torn apart, who could now be re-united and see the Korean Peninsula healed and become truly prosperous.
