(Salem, Oregon) - The Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA) informed the Governor today that his request for federal assistance to be offered to additional counties was approved. Oregon Office of Emergency Management requested that Coos and Lincoln Counties, who suffered damage from the Tsunami on March 11 be added to the initial federal declaration. "The assistance granted by FEMA will be to assist local public entities who suffered damages and extraordinary costs to repair and restore damaged public facilities" said Governor Kitzhaber. "The declaration will primarily benefit the Port of Depoe Bay and the Port of Coos Bay's Charleston Harbor." Both ports sustained damages from the waves on March 11 that severely damaged Port of Brookings. Curry County received the initial federal disaster declaration on March 21. Oregon Emergency Management and FEMA will work with county officials next week to begin the public infrastructure assistance process in those two counties.
