Keizer Burglary in the First Degree Arrest

(Keizer, Oregon) - On April 15th, 2011, at 9:03 PM, Catherine Ebright called 911 to report she had just returned home and discovered an unknown male subject inside her residence committing a burglary. Mrs. Ebright lives at 777 Dearborn Avenue NE, Keizer. Mrs. Ebright stated she verbally challenged the male suspect, but he fled out of her residence carrying a large duffel bag with stolen property inside it.

Keizer Police Officers responded to the call and located a witness, Ronald Kraemer, walking in the 600 block of Dearborn Avenue NE. Mr. Kraemer advised that he saw the suspect leaving from Mrs. Ebright’s house carrying a large bag. Mr. Kraemer also stated he heard Mrs. Ebright yelling that the suspect had just robbed her. Mr. Kraemer told police that he followed after the suspect on foot and lost sight of him as the suspect went behind a residence located at 610 Dearborn Avenue NE.

Keizer Police requested the assistance of a police K9 from the Marion County Sheriff’s Office. Deputy Jon Gadberry and his K9 partner, Donja, responded to assist. During a search of the area, Donja located the stolen property dropped by the suspect. Deputy Gadberry and Donja continued their search and located the suspect hiding in a parked vehicle behind the residence at 610 Dearborn Avenue NE.

The suspect was taken into custody without further incident and he was identified as Michael L. Sims (47 years old). After detaining Mr. Sims, Mrs. Ebright positively identified him as the suspect she saw burglarizing her home. While Mr. Sims was being transported to the Marion County Jail, he commented that he was impressed.

Mr. Sims was lodged at the Marion County Jail on charges of: Burglary 1, Criminal Trespass 2, and Unlawful Entry into a Motor Vehicle.
