(SALEM) - The results are in: Thanks to a major team effort, more cats than ever before were helped during the fifth annual Tom & Mom Cat Special $10 spay/neuter event in honor of Spay Day USA. Breaking all past records, over 1,100 qualified cats were fixed. Here's what one recipient had to say: "Thank you so much for giving me the opportunity to be able to have my cat spayed. She is doing great, and my mind is at ease" ~ L.E. The breakdown is as follows: 42 Veterinary clinics in 5 counties participated to complete a total of 652 male cat neuters and 328 female cat spays (participating vets and details at www.spayoregon.org). Organizers say that by lowering their prices and participating in this event, they are showing their commitment to reducing feline overpopulation in our communities. An additional 185+ female cats were spayed through the participating non-profits' existing spay/neuter programs. The Tom and Mom Cat Special was made possible as a team effort with: Indigo Rescue, www.indigorescue.org Salem Friends of Felines, www.salemfriendsoffelines.org POPPPA Inc, www.POPPAinc.org Spay Today!, www.spaytoday.org Friends of Shelter Animals Cherish the Animals Feral Cat Coalition of Oregon, www.feralcats.com Cat Adoption Team, catadoptionteam.org Those behind the effort say they also wish to thank the event sponsors for providing the funding for the female cat spay subsidies and the over-flow to other programs. Thanks to them it is reported, no cat in need was turned away.
