Apr-14-2006 13:44TweetFollow @OregonNews `Test-Time` Will Tell Tale On Oregon FuturesBy Henry Clay Ruark
(SALEM) - This time, for sure, it is the presumably-adult Legislators who face the inevitable `testing situation" so provocative of student fears throughout the educational process. This time, for sure, it is the past-learnings they should have achieved, literally decades-ago, that will tell the tale; this time, for full attention of voters rightly angered by years of neglect; to sue for Constitutional rights to decent and decisive education for their children -- and for oncoming generations, too. This time, too, we will see whether `it takes one to work with one" -- since Susan Castillo, the Oregon Superintendent of Education, will surely play a key role `this time". She comes from their own ranks, with strong and unblemished record of achievement when she was `one of them"; with still further proof of competency and complete good will ever since, firmly and publicly on the record for all to check. For those with professional educational-degree backgrounds, this is no surprise; even though some local misinformed and thus naive Editorial writers locally seem to feel communications competence and proven accomplishments are inferior, in some surely strange ways, to the magical mystiques generated by an advanced Ed.M. or D.Ed. degree. `It Simply Ain`t SO", as anyone from-there will know --a favorite-quote from my own D.Ed.-degree School of Education dean, with whom we explored this specific relationship many times. He was a longtime Indiana legislator and eventually their Superintendent of Education, in time, recognized for his hard-earned political skills on the field of combat itself. Politics is a different and much more desperate endeavor than any level whatsoever of education. Ask anyone who has competed in both to compare the conflict-levels and confrontations-demanded !! Today it is played by `the rules of war" (and corporate contribution-impacts) and nothing else; while education must still rely on rational and reasonable professional application of basic knowledge gained via solid experience over many years. (For which as parents we can be thankful...!!) Yet there is nothing more political than the funding for our educational system -- a fact of life making all parents and every child into an unfortunate and unguardable hostage; unfortunately thus specially vulnerable for those commercial interests whose lifelong dollar-driven motivational determination have led us into such desperate straits; right here in our own State of Oregon, and at the national level, too. What more-vulnerable area of middle-class life to attack than the educational system, if one sets out to divert and then destroy democracy as we`ve known it for 200 years ? Is such effort underway in this nation ? If you read national reports, investigative journalism, political analyses, leading national magazine articles, widespread independent press reports at all levels` and, increasingly, independent sources via Internet; you will find solidly-documented materials making that reality completely clear. Recent investigative reporting re a repetitive candidate for Oregon`s Governorship shows how deeply and desperately that effort has penetrated, right here in our home state, driven by national-cabal dollars; OR do you prefer the potential postures of possible `hands-on therapy" advocates proven to have provided prolific profit-monies to that particular `personable" repeat-candidate ?? That is why it is so essentially informative to find our own solid communicator Castillo stating publicly that the notoriously confrontationally-"confused" political-party combatants, gathered around her publicly, are now, finally, by determined desperate public demand, centering and focussing on educational funding reform. Even `they" are now finding it finally and fiercely so fully-demanded by public posture, press and tv-pressures, potential corporate-corruption clean-up, and even their own remnants of personal cogitation and conscience, to come to their senses and see the only direction they can take: Massive new monies for Oregon`s education system, from Kindergarten all the way through University grad-school. Even if the Norquist PLEDGE (NEVER ANY TAX-RISE !) to which many have bowed over the past twenty years is finally forced into the discard of all such desperate ploys by deceitful politicians planning for plundering the people while pretending to promise action for their promises. Are YOU ready for `the testing situation" ? `They" had better-be -- this time failing-the-test can truly be fatal. _________________________________________
