Florida Governor Who Opposes Prescription Drug Monitoring Joins Drug Trade Panel

(TALLAHASSEE, Fla.) - Earlier this week we published Rick Scott Elected Governor of Florida, But Voters Have a Charlatan in Office -- Not a Governor!

The story that illustrated the outrageous side of Florida politics, the state's new governor, and the relationship both play in the expanding Oxycontin crisis. Florida is where 85% of all Oxycontin sales take place.

I received the notice posted below, of a hearing in the U.S. Senate on April 14 in Washington, DC.  The notification came by email from Congresswoman Mary Bono Mack of California's senior legislative assistant.

When I read the Panel II participants' names, I sent an email to the congresswoman's office -- short and to the point -- it read:

Rick Scott serving on this panel is absolutely disgusting.

In a short time, I received the below email from Mack's office --

Hi Marianne,

The witnesses aren’t meant to be an endorsement by the Congresswoman. Some are there to be challenged – we only want to bring leaders to the table for the discussion and the Congresswoman is very committed to getting to the root of the problem. She is very concerned the DEA and FDA haven’t done nearly enough on this issue. The FDA won’t be testifying (the Congresswoman’s subcommittee has no jurisdiction over FDA). As we’re preparing the Congresswoman for asking questions to Pharma, the DEA, etc., any insight you have that you believe would help, I’d love to hear.

Thanks,

Amy

My hope is that Congresswoman Mack and others on the panel as well as the chamber do just that -- challenge Governor Rick Scott -- starting with why he opposes prescription drug monitoring in his state of Florida.  I'm sure family members of young people dead because of the epidemic of prescription drugs and pill mills in Florida and throughout the country are anxious to hear his reply.

Hopefully they will not be buying the snake oil Scott will be trying to sell them!
