(SALEM) - Salem's first high school is celebrating its 100th Anniversary. Alumni, staff, students and the community is invited to attend and participate in the upcoming events. April 27th First North Salem Hall of Fame Dinner At Mission Mill Spinning Room where the following individuals will be honored: Mary Eyre, teacher and Salem Chamber of Commerce Distinguished Citizen; Armory "Slats" Gill, National Basketball Association Hall of Fame; Edith Green, U.S. Representative, teacher, and author of Title IX 9 (women's sports); Mark Hatfield, Oregon Governor and US Senator; Howard Bruce King, sports announcer; Dr. Edward A. Knapp, Director Los Alamos Meson Physics Facility; Justice Wallace B. Carson Jr., Oregon Supreme Court Justice; Jean Moore William, Willamette University Professor; Claudette Groenendaal, NCAA 800 and 1,500 meter champion; Larry Mahan, six-time World All-around cowboy; John McArdle, 1980 U.S. Olympic Team (hammer throw); Malcolm Snider, All American tackle and professional football player; Paul Halsor, North teacher, coach, and athletic director; Lou Littlejohn, North teacher, coach, and athletic director; Dorothy Patch, North teacher and human rights leader; Tom Pickens, principal. These individuals' actions or achievements in their chosen fields have brought honor and distinction to the heritage of North Salem. Social time will begin at 6:00 PM and dinner will be served at 6:30 PM. Ticket prices are $30 for a single and $50 per couple. Tickets can be purchased from the bookkeeper at North Salem , or by calling (503) 399-3241. April 28th & 29th Century Celebration Gala This event will be a variety gala celebrating 100 years of North High history through song, dance, and drama. General admission is $5, and reserved seating is $7. Tickets may be purchased at the bookkeeper's window at North Salem. Performances begin at 7:00 PM. April 29th Viking Pride Day This fun-filled day will begin at noon with tours of the school, reunion rooms, slide-shows, a tree planting ceremony, and a spaghetti dinner. Cost for the dinner is $7 for adults, $4 for children (up through 12), and $20 for a family of four.
