OSP Targeting Impaired Drivers and Unsafe Commercial Trucks During Operation Trucker Check

During the first Operation Trucker Check in 1998, a total of 1079 drivers and their vehicles were assessed for driver and equipment violations.

(WOODBURN, Ore.) - Impaired truck drivers, unsafe commercial vehicles, and an opportunity to determine the extent to which commercial drivers may be operating while impaired by drugs, the twelfth Operation Trucker Check is being conducted April 10th through 12th at the Interstate 5 southbound Woodburn Port of Entry.

Involving a team of law enforcement officers and ODOT commercial vehicle inspectors, Operation Trucker Check targets driver impairment related to alcohol, drugs, or fatigue, and vehicle equipment safety.

Some of the reflected light is caught by a human eye and the image is imperfectly transmitted to the brain. Besides being upside down there are other errors which the brain sorts out and creates a corrected image.

Construction Company Requests ODOT Terminate $130 Million Contract

YRC signed a contract with ODOT worth $130 million in 2005 to complete the project.

(SALEM) - Yaquina River Constructors, the prime contractor for the Highway 20 Pioneer Mountain-Eddyville improvement project, has taken the unusual step of requesting that the Oregon Department of Transportation terminate its contract to build a new, 7-mile section of highway across the Coast Range between Corvallis and Newport.

This request to terminate follows months of discussion concerning landslide mitigation measures throughout the project site.

Sexual Assault Victims’ Emergency Medical Response (SAVE) Fund is reauthorized by passage of HB 2128

(SALEM) - Attorney General Hardy Myers today announced that Oregon’s Sexual Assault Victims Emergency Medical Response (SAVE) Fund was reauthorized by Governor Ted Kulongoski signing House Bill 2128 into law.

House Bill 2128 was sponsored by Myers on behalf of the Department of Justice (DOJ), which administers services to crime victims, including victims of sexual assault. The bill allows the SAVE Fund to continue by removing what is commonly referred to as a “sunset clause” from the law.

Shooting Places Two Gresham-Barlow Schools in Lockdown Tuesday

The Gresham Police Department was notified immediately and both Springwater Trail High School and Hogan Cedars Elementary School were immediately placed into lockdown.

(GRESHAM, Ore.) - Ten students were cut by flying glass this afternoon at Springwater Trail High School in Gresham when a rifle shot went through a classroom window of the top floor of the school.

The Gresham-Barlow School District has learned 10 Springwater Trail students in total were hurt by broken window glass. Two of those students were taken to a local hospital where they were treated. The remaining eight students were treated at the school.

(PISCATAWAY, N.J.) - The players, coach, Athletic Director, and President of Rutgers University's women's basketball team during a press conference Tuesday, expressed "anger, disgust, and great hurt" over the comments made by radio talk show host Don Imus, who has been suspended for calling team members last week "nappy-headed hos" during his radio program.

Oregon Statewide Average Gas Price Hits $3

In Salem, the average price for a gallon of regular unleaded jumped 6-cents in the past week to $3.

(SALEM) - In the past week, Oregon's average price for a gallon of regular gasoline gained almost six cents and now stands at $3.

At the same time the national average shot up by almost a dime a gallon to $2.79.

"While these numbers might be a bit discouraging, there is some good news," said AAA Oregon Public Affairs Director Elliott Eki.

"Pricing activity in California often signals what the rest of the country can expect. Since April 2nd, California's statewide average price gained only slightly more than a penny a gallon.

This week, California prices remain flat and in many metro areas, they're inching downward. That could be a signal that pump prices nationwide may begin to level off and even retreat very soon."

City Receiving Complaints About Noise from Forest Fire Fighting Helicopter Training

Crews are flying a Bell 214, which looks and sounds like a Bell UH-1 "Huey" and has the distinctive "wop wop wop" sound.

(CORVALLIS, Ore. ) - During the last couple weeks, there has been increased helicopter activity at the Corvallis Municipal Airport and over the City of Corvallis.

This activity has elicited a lot of questions and some complaints from residents.

Overnight Crash Near Woodburn Injures Two Keizer Residents

Alcohol appears to be a possible factor in the accident.

(WOODBURN, Ore. ) - The Marion County Sheriff’s Office and the Woodburn Police Department are investigating a crash that sent two people to the hospital.

Sgt. Jeff Wheeler says just after 11:00 PM, both agencies responded to a crash in the 1700 block of south Boonesferry road. The vehicle, a 2003 Mazda, was traveling southbound on Boonesferry road when it drove into a ditch.

Both occupants of the vehicle appeared to have been ejected from the car Wheeler said.
