When Portland-based Vidoop, LLC closed and could not pay its workers’ final paychecks, the employer-supported state Wage Security Fund stepped in.
(PORTLAND, Ore.) -
After months of working to stay afloat in a rough economy, Portland-based internet security company Vidoop, LLC was forced to lay off a majority of its employees in May without the ability to pay their final salaries.
Fortunately for Vidoop employees, Oregon’s Wage Security Fund (WSF) is able to ensure the company’s employees’ final wages are paid. To date, 12 former Vidoop employees have submitted wage claims and have been paid more than $23,000 to help them afford their rent, keep food on the table, and support their families.
The House Natural Resources Committee and the Senate Energy Committee are expected to hold a hearing on these bills in the near future.
(WASHINGTON, D.C.) -
Rep. Peter DeFazio and Sen. Ron Wyden today introduced three pieces of legislation to protect some of Oregon’s most wild places; Devil’s Staircase, Oregon Caves and the Lower Rogue River. DeFazio and Wyden have worked extensively on these important pieces of legislation with input from the public and private stakeholders.
The Devil’s Staircase legislation designates approximately 29,650 acres of the Siuslaw National Forest as a wilderness area. The Oregon Caves bill adds approximately 4,070 acres to the Oregon Caves National Monument and the Lower Rogue Wild and Scenic bill designates 142.9 miles of 40 waterways as “wild,” “scenic,” or “recreational”.
The world has remained cool over the 1,400 Christian and Muslim men, women and children killed by Israel during its recent invasion of Gaza—but will they care about the innocent caged animals slaughtered by Israeli soldiers at the little zoo in Gaza?
(GAZA CITY) -
Video makes for hard evidence. That is a fact, and police and military groups that overstep the boundaries of decency are increasingly debuting on the worldwide screen through venues like YouTube, much to the chagrin of those who used to get away with much, much more.
The charges this time are against the Israel Defense Force and regard caged animals at the Gaza Zoo. Reporters with American Free Press say the acts were needless.
The state's need for economic assistance continues to grow.
(SALEM, Ore.) -
As Oregon’s unemployment figures hit historic levels, the need for basic economic support such as food stamps and cash assistance continues to grow, the Oregon Department of Human Services (DHS) announced today.
Need for cash assistance (Temporary Assistance to Needy Families or TANF) increased nearly 30 percent over May of 2008. Only very low-income families qualify for this assistance – the monthly income limit for a family of three is $528 – and currently 25,509 families statewide are receiving assistance.
