Afghanistan Needs A Hero: How A Unifying National Leader Can Bring Peace

Nearly a decade has passed since the U.S. bypassed the king, and at this instant national unity and government legitimacy seem like pipe dreams.

(SEATTLE) - The above photo of President John F. Kennedy welcoming the former and last King of Afghanistan, Zahir Shah There is only one prescription for peace in Afghanistan - a formula clearly laid out to me recently by renowned experts and authorities on Central Asia, including the former highest ranking officer of Pakistan's armed forces.

Introducing Salem-News.com`s Newest Feature: Your City USA!

An amazing educational site in Oregon is an uplifting impression for many.

US Wants South Korean Sinking Story Told Their Way: Russia and China Disagree

The lack of evidence linking Pyongyang to the sinking, coupled with the history of US deceptions in Vietnam, Afghanistan and Iraq, makes it more likely that the Cheonan was sank by the US or South Koreans, accidentally or deliberately.

(LONDON) - Cheonan US Secretary of State Hillary Clinton has “...warned Chinese officials that China could put itself in a ‘dangerous position’ if it refuses to accept North Korea’s role in the sinking of the Cheonan.

This is an apparent reference to the South Korean joint civilian-military investigatory report”, according to the 2point6billion.com website.

Innovation of the Week: Getting Water to Crops

After just two years of improved irrigation provided by a treadle pump, Robert Mwanza grew more than enough vegetables to feed his wife and eight children.

(DAKAR, Senegal) - Treadle pumps are foot-powered pumps that sit on top of a well and irrigate small plots of land. (Photo: IDE) In 1999, when he purchased his first treadle pump, Robert Mwanza, a farmer in Lusaka, Zambia, was struggling to make ends meet and without reliable access to water. As his country dealt with drought and economic weakness, Robert lacked the necessary resources to irrigate his farm and “couldn’t grow enough to eat, let alone sell.”

Access to water is a luxury that many rural households, particularly in sub-Saharan Africa, do not have.

The Eupatridae, the aristocracy of birth, controlled the government, owned most of the land and used its power to drive the poorer farmers into debt during bad seasons.
