West Coast Sizzles, While Flooding Threatens Eastern States

Warm days for Oregon and California.

(SALEM, Ore.) - While it is not yet summer, record heat is building along the West Coast, and weather in along the eastern side of the nation is seeing drenching downpours and strong storms will continue today along the Gulf Coast.

Daily temperature records will be shattered over the next couple of days as heat spreads into the Intermountain West and central Rockies. The heat in the Northwest will peak Friday, with highs as much as 30 degrees above normal for mid-May.

Oregon Gets Ready for Some Early Summertime Heat

The hot weather will be short-lived as a cooler weather system moves into the state on Sunday.

That's what the National Weather Service says Oregon will see beginning Thursday as a ridge of high pressure builds over the Pacific Northwest and will intensify through Saturday. Afternoon high temperatures will soar well above normal with near record highs expected Thursday through Saturday.

For Salem and the mid-Willamette Valley, the high temperature Friday is expected to be in the mid to lower 90's.

Myanmar Faces New Catastrophe Without More Food Access

The official death toll reported by Myanmar’s Government has reached almost 32,000, with over 34,000 others missing.

(GENEVA) - Unless more access to Myanmar is granted to allow aid to flow more quickly to victims of this month’s deadly cyclone, a second catastrophe could result, the United Nations Office for the Coordination of Humanitarian Affairs (OCHA) warned today.

Despite some progress, efforts to help the 1.5 million people affected by Cyclone Nargis must be enhanced, a spokesperson for OCHA told reporters in Geneva.

Deadly Cyclone Batters Myanmar, UN Offers to Help

Thousands have reportedly been killed in the country formerly known as Burma, and the numbers in need of assistance are expected to be sizable.

(YANGON, Myanmar) - The United Nations has offered its assistance to Myanmar authorities in responding to the deadly cyclone which struck the South-East Asian nation on Friday, leaving death and widespread devastation in its wake.

According to the UN Office for the Coordination of Humanitarian Affairs (OCHA), Cyclone Nargis made landfall in the Irrawaddy delta region, some 250 kilometers southwest of Yangon around 4:00 PM on May 2nd.

LifeFlight Responds to Crash Near McMinnville

Highway conditions were reported as wet with light rain falling.

(MCMINNVILLE, Ore.) - Three people were injured, including two who were taken by LifeFlight with serious injuries, in a three vehicle collision Tuesday morning at the intersection of Highway 18 and SE Lafayette Highway east of McMinnville.

At 10:25 AM, a 1996 Mercury four-door sedan driven by 19-year old Laney Stephens of Independence, was stopped on SE Lafayette Highway waiting to cross Highway 18 from south to north, when it proceeded into the intersection and was broadsided.

Mother and Daughter Die in Crash on Interstate 84

Investigators say they do not know why the woman's vehicle suddenly veered from the roadway.

(ARLINGTON, Ore.) - A Spokane Valley, Washington mother and her 12-year old daughter died, and her 10-year old son received non-life threatening injuries, Sunday afternoon in a single vehicle rollover crash on Interstate 84 about eleven miles east of Arlington.

Oregon State Police Sergeant Julie Wilcox says that at approximately 4:19 PM, a 2000 Subaru Forester station wagon driven by 33-year old Heather Scrum of Spokane Valley, Washington, was eastbound on Interstate 84 at milepost 148.

Man Dies in Crash on Interstate 84 East of North Powder

Investigators say the driver lost control and spun around before rolling several times.

(NORTH POWDER, Ore.) - Police say an Idaho man died Monday morning after losing control of his pickup in icy, foggy conditions on Interstate 84 about one mile east of North Powder.

Around 6:00 AM this morning, a 1981 Toyota pickup driven by 38-year old James Hardin Slawson of Kuna, Idaho, was westbound on Interstate 84 near milepost 287.

Oregon Gets Ready for Another Blast of Cold Weather

The coldest morning lows will be on Sunday and Monday, and these temperatures could be low enough to harm tender vegetation.

(SALEM, Ore. ) - I think someone forgot to tell Old Man Winter that it's springtime in Oregon.

Unseasonably cold weather with low snow levels and near record low temperatures are in store for northwest Oregon this weekend. According to the National Weather Service the cold spring weather system will bring significant snow to the mountains and foothills, and near record overnight lows to the valley floor.

Overturned Semi Trailer Blocks Highway 20 Near Newport

Anyone traveling through the area should expect delays and use alternate routes if possible.

(TOLEDO, Ore.) - Oregon State Police say they are on the scene of a non-injury crash involving an overturned semi truck trailer that had been hauling cardboard on Highway 20.

State troopers report that one lane is blocked on Highway 20 about seventeen miles east of the city of Newport on the Oregon coast.

Grants Pass Man Dies in Single Vehicle Crash

Police say the roadway was covered in snow and slush and it was snowing hard at the time of the crash.

(GRANTS PASS, Ore.) - Police say a Grants Pass man was killed in a single vehicle crash this afternoon on SR140 near milepost 21, about 24 miles east of Medford.

Sergeant Tanya Henderson with Oregon State Police says that at approximately 2:08 PM today, a Chevrolet pick-up was westbound on SR140, when according to witnesses, the driver lost control and crossed the oncoming lane of travel before leaving the roadway.
