As Silva Barred from Advising UN, Wallstrom Says It`s Right, Ban Takes Note

The UN's Margot Wallstrom said there "should be consequences" for "atrocities."

(UNITED NATIONS) - Margot Wallstrom For 26 days, Inner City Press asked the UN how they could accept Major General Shavendra Silva as a member of the UN "Senior Advisory Group on Peacekeeping Operations" when he was named in connection with war crimes.

On the afternoon of February 22, Silva was told by the Group's chair Louise Frechette that his participation is "not appropriate."

Silva was a top military commander.

(GENEVA) - Shavendra Silva Sri Lanka’s deputy U.N. ambassador has been dropped from a group advising the Secretary-General on payment to troops participating in peacekeeping operations.

According to the report, Louise Frechette, said she had advised Major General Shavendra Silva “that his participation is not appropriate or helpful.”
