Oregon`s Visitor Industry Honors Salem Association

SCVA has been recognized five other times throughout the Association’s history with Governor’s Tourism Awards.

(SALEM, Ore.) - Shot from the Oregon Governors Conference The Salem Convention and Visitors Association (SCVA) received the Oregon Governor’s Tourism Industry Awareness Award Sunday, April 6th at the 24th Annual Governor’s Conference on Tourism held in Portland.

This prestigious award was presented to SCVA from the Oregon Tourism Commission for creating awareness of the economic importance of the visitor industry in Salem and region.

(SALEM, Ore.) - SCA event Photo If you have never attended a renaissance fair, then your chance is coming up. Saturday April 12th is the day old world chivalry comes to Salem, it goes from 10:00 AM to 5:00 PM and it happens at the city's Riverfront Park on Marion Street.

The event allows people of all ages a chance to gain an appreciation of what life was like long ago in Europe. The knights, their ladies, the peasants, the shopkeepers, join the artisans and craftsmen who enjoy showing their wares.

Oregon Wine Industry Comes Together to Support Active Wine Tourism

The five-day tour is unique because it gets people out of their cars, away from tasting rooms, and into the vineyards themselves.

(EUGENE, Ore.) - Wine glass Wineries, wine-related businesses, and tourism associations in Oregon have rallied behind a new effort to promote active wine tourism in the Oregon wine country. So far, 14 organizations have signed up to sponsor the Oregon Wine Adventure, a new multisport wine tour in the area.

"This is a brand new concept in Oregon and, as far as we can tell, in the wine industry worldwide," explains Jeannine Heidenreich of the Convention & Visitors Association of Lane County, one of the original supporters of the concept.

Winter Whale Watching Week Begins Today

Whales off the Oregon Coast sometimes come very close to the shoreline.

(DEPOE BAY, Ore.) - whale Whale Watching volunteers will be present at 28 sites in Oregon between Wednesday, December 26th and Tuesday, January 1st, from 10:00 AM and 1:00 PM, to show visitors the migrating gray whale population.

Experts say this is not the only time you can see the whales, but winter whale watching can be spectacular. About 18,000 gray whales will pass by in about 4 weeks, from mid-December to mid-January. The same locations are still great viewing spots.

Coast Guard Rescues Passengers from Damaged Cruise Ship

The 299 foot cruise ship Empress of the North ran aground 49 miles west of Juneau this morning.

(JUNEAU, Alaska ) - cruise ship rescue The Coast Guard has successfully facilitated the evacuation of all 248 passengers from the Empress of the North and will be transferring them to the Alaska Marine Highway ferry vessel Columbia for transit back to Juneau.
