NASCAR: Drivers Must Stay in Cars after on Track Incidents

(BROOKLYN, Mich. ) - Tony Stewart NASCAR on Friday said it would forbid drivers from getting out of their cars during caution periods following an on-track fatality last weekend when three-time champion Tony Stewart struck another driver.

The most widely followed motorsports organization in the United States said the new rule would require drivers involved in accidents to remain in their car unless it was unsafe to do so due to fire or smoke.

NASCAR: Tony Stewart Will Not Race at Michigan

Earlier this week, Stewart canceled plans to race at Plymouth Speedway (in Indiana) this weekend.

(BROOKLYN, Michigan) - Tony Stewart Tony Stewart will not drive this weekend in the Sprint Cup Series at Michigan International Speedway. Instead, Jeff Burton will drive the No. 14 Chevrolet for Stewart-Haas Racing at the 2-mile track.

According to a team release, the driver change only pertains to the Michigan race. Stewart's plans for the upcoming Sprint Cup Series schedule have yet to be determined.

UPDATE: Tony Stewart Out of Sunday`s Race after Hitting, Killing Other Driver

Greg Zipadelli has announced that Tony Stewart will not race today. Regan Smith will run the #14 car today at Watkins Glen.

(CANANDAIGUA, N.Y.) - Kevin Ward Jr Tony Stewart struck and killed a fellow driver with his sprint car late Saturday night during a dirt-track race at Canandaigua (N.Y.) Motorsports Park, the Ontario County Sheriff's Department announced early Sunday morning.

In the sprint-car incident, Sheriff Philip Povero confirmed the driver, whom Povero would not identify, was dead on arrival to an area hospital Saturday night and that Stewart was the driver who struck him.
