Salem Mourns the Deaths of 3 Teens in Less than a Month

Back on July 7, just three days after his birthday, 14-year-old Sean Kaleopa drowned while swimming at the Three Pools Recreation area.

(SALEM, Ore. ) - Salem family, friends, and the community as a whole, have had to endure the tragic deaths of three teenagers from Salem in less than a month, and two, just days apart.

On Sunday, 16-year-old North Salem High School student Matthew Tufts drowned after jumping into Mill Creek, and on Saturday, 19-year-old Marina Toran of Salem was a passenger in a vehicle that fell down a 100 foot embankment and ended up in the Molalla River.

(SALEM, Ore. ) - The family of 14-year-old Sean Kaleopa of Salem, who died tragically while swimming at the three pools on the North Fork of the Santiam River say his funeral will be held on Tuesday in West Salem.

Family members tell Salem-News.com that everyone is welcome to attend the final services for Sean on Tuesday from 2:00 p.m. to 5:00 p.m. at West Salem Foursquare Church, located at 3094 Gehlar Rd NW.

Salem Teen Drowns at Three Pools Just Days After His Birthday

An impromptu memorial was held Tuesday at Houck Middle School at 1:30 p.m.

(SALEM, Ore. ) - As Salem-News.com was first to report just after 3:00 p.m. on Monday, emergency responders and the Marion County Sheriff's office responded to a fatal drowning at the three pools day use area on the North Fork of the Santiam River which is located 17 miles up from Ore. Highway 22, and 45 miles east of Salem.

The Marion County Sheriff's office has positively identified the boy who tragically drowned as 14-year-old Sean Kaleopa of Salem, who had just celebrated his birthday on July 4.
