California Faces Major Heavy Rain Event, Flooding

Rain will also affect areas farther south through Los Angeles and San Diego and farther north into western Oregon.

(STATE COLLEGE, Pa.) - California weather map AccuWeather.com reports a major heavy rain event is starting to get under way across California today. Rounds of soaking rain are headed for the state through at least the middle of next week and will pose a significant threat for flooding.

The heaviest rain is expected to target central California with the western slopes of the Sierra being hit the hardest.

Treasure Island`s Toxic Problem

Turns out that old Treasure Island Naval Station is some of the 'hottest' property in San Francisco...

(SAN FRANCISCO) - Toxic piles at Treasure Island School The Blue Angels jet fighters racing across the sky maybe 500 feet above me, were practicing for an air show so the Navy could show off what it considers the very best in personnel, training and equipment.

Their presence over the old Treasure Island Naval Station that day was ironic, because I was visiting the island to see the Navy at its most decrepit and toxic.

(SAN FRANCISCO) - Climategate Last November, 1,000 stolen e-mails from one of the world’s leading climate research centers in Britain seemed to challenge the scientific consensus that global warming is happening and that it is induced by human activity.

Cleanup at Hunters Point Stirring Controversy

Getting the entire shipyard up to rigid residential standards will take more review, and will take longer to accomplish, but some local residents believe this is the only way to ensure their safety.

(SAN FRANCISCO) - Different views of Hunters Point over the years. The long wait to clean up the Hunter's Point Naval Shipyard will continue.

In the past, the site was used by the U.S. Navy for nuclear weapons research and radioactive laboratory operations when the effects of such activities were unknown.
