Sheridan Family of Five Receiving Red Cross Support After Fire Destroys Home

One family dog was lost in the blaze.

(SHERIDAN) - Fire art A Sheridan family of five are receiving Red Cross support after an overnight fire destroyed their home on SE Sheridan Road.

An observant neighbor woke the head of household shortly after the fire started at around 10:30 PM Saturday night.

Fire in South Salem Leaves Several Families Homeless (UPDATE)

Firefighters are still on the scene and Madronna Road is closed at Commercial. Traffic patterns will remain impacted throughout the day.

(SALEM) - Fire OTS art Salem firefighters spent much of the day on the scene of a three-alarm apartment fire at 365 Madrona Ave SE. The fire led to several injuries.

Fire Department Spokesman Bill Holmstrom says the fire quickly spread from one unit to another, but firefighters were able to stop the spread before fire destroyed the entire building.

Five units were directly damaged by fire, while seven more were damaged by heat, smoke, or water. Approximately 50 peopled lived in the building. The occupant of the unit where the fire originated was treated by firefighter/paramedics and transported to Salem Hospital by private vehicle.

Back to School Blood Drive

The drive happens August 18th at the Lancaster Mall in Salem.

(SALEM) - Red Cross flag Just in time for back to school 16, 17 and 18 year old donors have a chance to help others by donating blood during a special event at the Lancaster Mall, and those who participate will receive 3 free music downloads and a chance to win 1 of 20 Ipod's.

Organizers say just an hour of a person's time and a pint of blood can make a real difference in someone's life--and that's a feeling that they say, will stay with you.

Hospital patients count on volunteer blood donors to help provide needed medical treatment. Because blood can be separated into different components, each blood donation can help save multiple people.

Local Red Cross Volunteers to Assist Flooding Victims

The volunteers have been trained to help families rebuild their lives following disasters.

(SALEM) - Three volunteers from the Willamette Chapter of the American Red Cross in Salem will head east to assist victims in a disaster zone. The volunteers received three-week assignments to deliver assistance to flood victims in Wilksboro, Pennsylvania.

On Thursday, 700 Red Cross disaster relief workers were requested to deploy to East Coast areas affected by flooding.

Friday afternoon an additional 400 workers were asked to deploy. All American Red Cross workers have been trained to help families rebuild their lives following disasters.
