The Discovery of America

I once spent a year in Philadelphia - I think it was on a Sunday - W.C. Fields

(DAYTONA BEACH) - A scene of Columbus landing in America, believing he had reached Asia. America was discovered by nomads who crossed a land bridge to Alaska 10,000 years ago. They came on foot, before the invention of the wheel or the horse Some of them may have come from as far away as India, which may explain why they called themselves Indians.

Their ethnic origin has been widely debated, although since they wore feathers in their hair, they definitely weren't Chinese. They did talk funny, but so does everybody in southeast Asia.

NAACP Supports HR 1523, Respect State Marijuana Laws Act

Marijuana Prohibition Discriminatorily Enforced, Wasteful, Responsible for Overincarceration, Claims Influential Organization

(WASHINGTON, DC) - Salem-News.com Laws prohibiting marijuana have been unjustly enforced and are largely responsible for the current incarceration crisis, says the National Association for the Advancement of Colored People, one of the nation’s foremost organizations concerned with ending race-based discrimination.

The group has officially endorsed HR 1523, a bill introduced by California Republican Rep. Dana Rohrabacher calling for the Controlled Substances Act to be amended so as not to apply to those in compliance with state marijuana laws.

NAACP Backs `States` Rights` on Marijuana Laws

NAACP resolution notes that new state laws are moderating the impact of "extreme federal policies."

(WASHINGTON, DC) - NAACP NAACP and other civil rights groups -- for important historical reasons -- have not always been so keen on the idea of states' rights.

Now, however, due in no small part to the racial disparities in enforcement of the failed "war on drugs," the group is endorsing a bipartisan Congressional bill that will let states set their own marijuana policies.

Anti Zionist Zionist Dror Feiler On The Jewish State And His Right to Return

In an interview with the Israeli Ynet, Feiler produced some very peculiar Judeo-centric arguments that demonstrated a complete dismissal of any ethics, let alone any universal approach to the conflict.

(LONDON) - Dror Feiler, Ynet reported today that “Israeli expat Dror Feiler, who was banned entry to Israel due to his participation several Gaza flotillas, appealed to the Jerusalem District Court to reverse the ban and allow him to visit the country in order to tend to his sick, 90-year-old mother.”

Now, of course I hope that Feiler succeeds in his appeal and manages to reunite with his elderly mother, but the argument that Feiler uses in his appeal exposes the deceptive nature that unfortunately, is intrinsic to the Jewish progressive message in general and to Dror Feiler in particular.

Congratulations to our American Truth-Telling Comrades

Our heartfelt congratulations to the winners: you are the pride of the United States and the whole world. At the same time, we cannot hide our disappointment at being left off the list. Our only consolation is that the winners were all US based.

(LONDON Redress) - Israeli apartheid It’s one of the highest accolades truth-telling fighters against racism and bigotry could hope for.

The Zio-cons of the ironically named “Anti-Defamation League” (ADL) have published a list of what it considers to be the 10 “most influential and active anti-Israel groups” operating in the United States, the Times of Israel reports.

Hanna Arendt and Jewish Intolerance

Every humanities student in the Western world will, at some time, comes across the work of Hannah Arendt but no one really knows the names of any of her detractors.

(London Redress) - In  1961 the German-Jewish philosopher and political theorist Hannah Arendt travelled to Jerusalem to cover the trial of Adolf Eichmann for the New Yorker. Margarethe von Trotta’s  new docudrama, Hannah Arendt, tells the story of her journey and the controversy following her report.

What Arendt (Barbara Sukowa) saw in Eichmann was not stupidity, but thoughtlessness – a complete incapacity for independent critical thought. Arendt understood that it was within this thoughtlessness that the evil becomes banal as opposed to being a sinister, premeditated crime.

31 Years on Sabra-Shatila Massacre: Justice Delayed but Gaining Ground

“If you don’t want the Lebanese to kill them, we will kill them.” - Ariel Sharon

(SHATILA CAMP, Beirut) - Sabra-Shatila refugee camp massacre Each year, during the third week of September, Lebanon and this region, as well as international supporters, pause to reflect upon and commemorate the victims one of the twentieth century’s most horrific and cynical crimes perpetrated by a member state of the United Nations.

The Sabra-Shatila massacre took place September 16-19th in Beirut, a well-documented 48 hours of slaughter that saw the Shatila Palestinian refugee camp surrounded and sealed off by the occupying Israeli army, whose intent was to block and force back inside the killing field anyone seeking to escape...

Human Rights Tyranny

In the nearly four decades that have passed since my presentation with Five Minutes To Midnight of the everyday reality of global poverty, there has been some progress in addressing it, but not nearly enough.

(GENEVA ) - Human rights The title of my contribution to this conference is taken from paragraph three of the Preamble to the Universal Declaration of Human Rights. QUOTE “It is essential, if man is not to be compelled to have recourse, as a last resort, to rebellion against tyranny and oppression, that human rights should be protected by the rule of law” UNQUOTE

The problem, I say, is that there is no universal enforcement of the rule of law to ensure and protect human rights. Why not?
