Magnitude 6.4 Earthquake Shakes Off Oregon Coast

There were no reports of injuries or damage.

(COOS BAY, Ore. ) - coast quake image A 6.4 magnitude earthquake struck off the Oregon coast Wednesday night, the USGS reported.

The earthquake occurred at 5:37 PM and was located 153 miles west of Winchester Bay. The quake had a depth of 6.2 miles.

Another Day, Another Storm for the Northwest (VIDEO)

Gusts over 50 mph from Washington to Northern California.

(SALEM, Ore.) - Accuweather.com map Forecasters report that the latest in a stream of Pacific storms will slam the Northwest with wind, rain, and snow that will create hazardous travel conditions, especially in the mountains, today. By tonight, the latest storm will bring gusty onshore winds to coastal areas from Washington to northern California.

A warm front associated with another Pacific storm will approach The Oregon coast this evening. Sustained winds ahead of this front will increase to 25 To 40 mph along the Central Oregon coast early in the evening then spread to the North Oregon coast mainly south of Tillamook by late Evening.

Two Boys Safely Rescued by Coast Guard at Seaside

The two boys, safely hoisted them into the aircraft and transported them to a local airfield where their parents, police and fire officials were waiting.

(SEASIDE, Ore.) - Coast Guard used an HH-60 Jayhawk helicopter The Coast Guard assisted in locating and hoisting two boys to safety at Seaside Monday evening. Two two boys were 13-years old who became lost while hiking in a forest.

A spokesman from Coast Guard Group Astoria says they received a phone call from the Seaside Police Department at 5:47 PM that two 13-year-old boys had gotten lost in the woods behind the Seaside Elementary School in Seaside.

Death Investigation in Progress near Florence

The body was severely decomposed and no identification was located.

(FLORENCE, Ore.) - Death investigation Oregon State Police and the Lane County Medical Examiner are attempting to positively identify the body of a male found Thursday afternoon under the east end of the North Fork Siuslaw River Bridge.

Police investigators at this point say that there does not appear to be any indications of foul play.

State Trooper Avoids Injury in Crash Near Myrtle Point

Injury Traffic Crash Involving Oregon State Police Trooper - Highway 42 east of Myrtle Point.

(MYRTLE POINT, Ore.) - Photo of crash scene near Coos Bay, Oregon 1-2-08: Oregon State Police The Coos County Sheriff's Office is investigating a Wednesday afternoon traffic crash involving an Oregon State Police trooper on Highway 42 about five miles east of Myrtle Point. The trooper was not injured and the other involved driver received non-life threatening injuries.

According to a Coos County Sheriff's Office news release, Wednesday at approximately 5:41 PM, OSP Trooper Freddie Dunlap was eastbound enroute to a reported three vehicle crash on Highway 42 near the Coos / Douglas county line.

Unusual `Loggerhead` Sea Turtle Washes Ashore Near Seaside

Though loggerheads have been spotted as far north as Alaska they only come ashore in this region when distressed.

(SEASIDE, Ore.) - Loggerhead turtle that washed ashore at Gearhart, Oregon 12-28-07 Christmas Eve brought an unusual and ancient traveler to the north Oregon coast – one so old it’s related to the dinosaurs. A large sea turtle washed up just north of Seaside, on a beach in Gearhart.

The loggerhead sea turtle was reported still alive after drifting up with the tides in the early afternoon of December 24th. It died shortly after it was recovered by staff at the Seaside Aquarium, dying sometime on Christmas day.

New Vehicle Information in Highway 26 Shooting Investigation

Police hope photo of vehicle of interest and suspect composite sketch will lead them to the shooter.

(ZIG ZAG, Ore.) - Photos in shooting investigation from 12-10-07 in Zig Zag, Oregon Photos of the vehicle of interest in the December 10th shooting of two men on Highway 26 in the Zig Zag area have been released by Oregon State Police. Investigators recently released a composite drawing of an unidentified suspect to help develop tips in their ongoing investigation.

A witness described the vehicle of interest behind the victims' van as a dark green early 2000 model Honda Civic. At this time it is not known if the vehicle was a two or four door model, but police believe the driver is the person that shot the two men.

Body Found in Surf Identified as Missing Yachats Man

Police have identified the victim found in the surf near Yachats State Park

(NEWPORT, Ore.) - Oregon State Police and Lincoln County Medical Examiner have positively identify a body found Thursday morning in the surf on the south end of Yachats State Park.

There is no indication of foul play and the medical examiner will determine the cause of death of 40-year old Gary Raymond Wilson of Yachats.

Police Attempt to Identify Body Found in the Surf Near Yachats

The body was found near the ocean shore by a person taking a walk at Yachats State Park.

(NEWPORT, Ore.) - Death investigation A person spotted a body this morning in the surf on the south end of Yachats State Park while walking on the beach at 10:00 AM. Oregon State Police and the Lincoln County Medical Examiner are attempting to positively identify the white male approximately who they say is 35 to 45 years of age.

Police say at this point, there is no indication of foul play and investigators have ruled out the body being that of a 22-year old man missing since falling off a boat December 7th.

Winter Whale Watching Week Begins Today

Whales off the Oregon Coast sometimes come very close to the shoreline.

(DEPOE BAY, Ore.) - whale Whale Watching volunteers will be present at 28 sites in Oregon between Wednesday, December 26th and Tuesday, January 1st, from 10:00 AM and 1:00 PM, to show visitors the migrating gray whale population.

Experts say this is not the only time you can see the whales, but winter whale watching can be spectacular. About 18,000 gray whales will pass by in about 4 weeks, from mid-December to mid-January. The same locations are still great viewing spots.
