There's an enigma about jazz. I mean traditional jazz, not the offshoots, the evolutionary branches.
I mean the kind you might have heard on Bourbon Street in the Big Easy, although more likely, these days, drowned out by hard rock abominations. Trad. Where I live, in Dixie where it all started, anyone you might stop on the street doesn't even know what you're talking about.

New Orleans` Shooting 19 Wounded Including 2 Kids at Mother`s Day Parade

Nine people were taken to the area's University Hospital, eight of them having sustained gunshot wounds, according to WWLTV. Three are said to be critical condition.
(NEW ORLEANS) -
At least 17 people were reportedly wounded during a Mother's Day parade in New Orleans on Sunday.
Among the victims was a 10-year-old girl who was grazed by a bullet.

Alarming Info in Oil Spill Toxicology Report

The April 20, 2010 explosion of BP's Deepwater Horizon rig unleashed the worst oil spill in U.S. history and killed 11 men.
(NEW ORLEANS CNS) -
A toxicology report relating to a sick oil spill cleanup worker claims the operation in which BP and the Coast Guard set the massive slick on fire was characterized by secrecy, including a threat to shoot down a news helicopter.
The report also says most of the oiled birds found during the spill were euthanized rather than rehabilitated.

Riding a wave of interest building this storm season, the Louisiana State Museum officially opened its new exhibit on living with hurricanes.
Dozens of VIPs, including the director of the National Hurricane Center Bill Read, gathered in the French Quarter to unveil the $7.5 million, 6,700-square-foot installation Living with Hurricanes: Katrina and Beyond. It documents the Gulf Coast’s devastation and rebirth.

Witness accounts show that there was almost a sense of official contempt for the people of New Orleans that often went beyond criminal negligence.
(LONDON) -
Five years after Hurricane Katrina in New Orleans – a natural disaster with unnatural responses – led to the death of an estimated 1,800 people and the displacement of hundreds of thousands of others, the lesson has not yet been learned.
While US President Barack Obama acknowledged that the disaster was "a man-made catastrophe – a shameful breakdown in government that left countless men, women and children abandoned and alone" – he still missed the point, not only in New Orleans, but also in earthquake-wrecked Haiti and flood-hit Pakistan.

New Orleans, not surprisingly, has its share of local lore.

In a city that attracts crowds for Mardi Gras celebrations and blues festivals, beautiful architecture and fine cuisine, New Orleans is, in some circles, even more famous for its established inhabitants.
It's a shame they're all dead.
Many bars and shops boast of their ghostly inhabitants. Even La Petite Theatre du Vieux Carre is known for strange happenings and the eerie ghost Caroline. Reports say that Caroline was an actress at the theatre in the 1920s.
