Peter Yarrow's “An Evening of Love and Laughter,” a concert benefiting Portland-based Wisdom of the Elders

(PORTLAND, OR) - Peter Yarrow, of the famed 1960s folk group Peter, Paul & Mary Peter Yarrow, of the famed 1960s folk group Peter, Paul & Mary, will perform “An Evening of Love and Laughter” to benefit Portland-based Wisdom of the Elders, a Native American nonprofit, 7:30 p.m. Friday, Feb. 14, at Augustana Lutheran Church, which donated use of its facility at 2710 NE 14th Ave.

Yarrow, who wrote some of the trio’s hits, including “Puff, the Magic Dragon” and “Day is Done,” has merged music and social activism in recent decades.

(SALEM / BOSTON) - Ariana Zoto and Jamal Belica One is entitled to defend oneself. As long as there are bullies—and they will not disappear easily in a society in which the familial fabric has become so torn and loosened—learning a little self-defense can do no harm. Older children should mentor the younger and watch out for the signs of bullying.

When children—the hope of the future—are driven to killing themselves because of the relentless unchecked cruelties of bullies, perhaps it is time to encourage mentoring to protect the vulnerable.

Guitar, Banjo & Dobro with Slipshod January 18 at Lincoln City Cultural Center

At the duo’s Jan. 18 debut at the Lincoln City Cultural Center, they’ll be playing classics and favorites, with names like “Black Mountain Rag,” “Did She Mention My Name” and “Fast Train to Georgia.”

(LINCOLN CITY, OR) - Slipshod On Saturday, Jan. 18, the Lincoln City Cultural Center will proudly present an evening of bluegrass, Americana and blues from a dynamic duo called Slipshod. The show will begin at 7 pm at the LCCC, 540 NE Hwy. 101 inside the historic Delake School building.

Slipshod is Matt Snook (dobro and banjo) and Steve Blanchard (guitar and mandolin). They met a number of years ago, as part of the Northwest bluegrass community, and became fast friends – and picking partners.

The eclectic line–up attracted a colourful crowd in what turned out to be an intimate, thoughtful and vibrant conclusion to 2013 which raised just over £1700!
