Marion County K9 Captures Fugitive

The suspect is currently in the Linn County Jail for the charges of Burglary in the First Degree, Unlawful Entry of a Motor Vehicle, four outstanding Bench Warrants and Theft in the Third Degree.

(MILL CITY, OR) - Marion County Sheriff's Deputy Jason Bernards and his K9 partner Rolo A Marion County deputy and his canine partner helped nab a man authorities describe as a wanted felon with numerous warrants for his arrest.

Marion County Sheriff's Deputy Jason Bernards and his K9 partner Rolo were called to help the Linn County Sheriff's Office in the 400 block of SW Ivy Street in Mill City December 8th at 9:35 p.m.

Deputy Shot Near Salem, Suspect In Custody

Salem Police, who have taken over the investigation, determined that a Silverton Police Officer also fired his weapon during the incident.

(SALEM OR) - Deputy Jim Buchholz, a 9 year veteran with the Marion County Sheriff's Office. On Friday December 6th at approximately 9:00 a.m. the Silverton Police Department began a pursuit of a stolen vehicle. This pursuit left the city of Silverton heading south into a rural portion of Marion County.

The sheriff's office was requested for assistance and responded to the general area where this incident took place. Prior to the sheriff's office arrival the pursuit was terminated by Silverton after they lost sight of the vehicle.

(SALEM OR) - Marion County firefighters and their sons For over 15 years, Marion County Fire District #1 Professional Firefighters Local 2557 has been raising money for the Muscular Dystrophy Association (MDA) to fight neuromuscular disease with 'Fill the Boot' fundraisers.

On November 29, 2013, MCFD#1 firefighters donated time and resources to lay the foundation for another successful 'Fill the Boot' fundraiser.

Liberty House Hires New Director

(SALEM) - Alison Kelley The Liberty House Board of Directors has hired Alison Kelley to become its new Chief Executive Officer. Kelley will step down from her current position as the Marion County Community Services Director on Tuesday, September 3, 2013, and will begin her new role with Liberty House on Wednesday, September 4, 2013.

Liberty House is a child abuse assessment center serving both Marion and Polk Counties.

(UPDATED) Two Men Injured in Salem Shooting

Deputies say the shooting happened on Lancaster Drive SE, near Durbin Avenue SE, in Salem, after an altercation between the occupants of two vehicles; one occupant fired at the other vehicle, striking both victims.

(SALEM) - Shooting in Salenm, Oregon 7-20-13 Two people were treated at the Salem Hospital following a shooting that occurred at about 6:39pm, Saturday.

The Salem Police Department received the initial call, but it was later determined that the shooting occurred in the county's jurisdiction.

6 Years Later, Fugitive Sought in Fatal Crash That Killed Marion County Deputy Still Not Located

Alfredo De Jesus Ascencio has been sought by police since he was indicted August 3, 2007 by a Marion County Grand Jury on two counts of Criminally Negligent Homicide.

(SALEM OR) - Suspect Alfredo De Jesus Ascencio - wanted for Marion County deputy homicide Sunday, June 16, is the sixth anniversary of the death of Marion County Deputy Kelly Fredinburg who was killed in a late night traffic crash involving another vehicle on Highway 99E north of Gervais.

The driver of the other involving vehicle, Alfredo De Jesus Ascencio, is still a fugitive wanted for two counts of Criminally Negligent Homicide for causing the death his 19-year old passenger and Deputy Fredinburg.

Inmate Charged in Stabbing Death of Another Inmate

The victim was serving a 30 day sentence for Contempt of Court.

(SALEM OR) - Suspect, 42-year old David Ray Bartol The victim inmate stabbing victim in the June 4th assault that occurred in the Marion County Jail died from his injuries at about 8:45 p.m., Sunday night.

A press release issued by the Marion County Sheriff's Office indicates that the victim, 33-year old Gavin Lee Siscel, was only serving 30 days on a contempt of court charge.

Marion County Inmate Hospitalized After Assault

Officials at this point are withholding the names of the inmates, and they will not elaborate at this time as to where the victim was stabbed.

(SALEM) - Marion County Jail in Salem One inmate is hospitalized and another is being questioned following an assault that took place in the Marion County Jail yesterday afternoon.

Marion County detectives say they are continuing their investigation into the assault which occurred at about 2:00 p.m. The victim inmate was transported by helicopter to the Oregon Health and Science University Hospital in Portland.

The shooting occurred in Southeast Salem on April 23, 2013.
