Irvine`s Great Park Corporation Overlooks El Toro`s Deadly Toxicity

Man, the stuff people are still trying to get away with in this country; it is more than amazing, but not the kind of daring I admire.

(IRVINE, Calif.) - Salem-News.com Poor environmental stewardship over more than half a century of use, left the former El Toro Marine Corps Air Station in Irvine a toxic waste zone, seething with chemicals that have already killed and sickened more Marines that we will probably ever accurately know.

Irvine and the "Great Park Corporation" are pushing forward with plans to build a park on El Toro, even though it is clearly established that the place is the equivalent of an environmental disaster zone.

A Few Good Men and Bladder Cancer

Veterans of EPA Superfund sites are at risk for bladder cancer from organic solvent exposure. A simple and non-evasive test is available to detect bladder cancer. This information has not been passed to veterans at risk for disease.

(SOMERDALE, N.J.) - Robert O'Dowd and El Toro, Summer of 2009 Those that served and were exposed to toxic chemicals have a critical need to know what chemicals they were exposed to and access to medical screening to stay healthy.

No reasonable person would disagree with this.

Typhoons, Earthquakes, Tsunamis, Forgotten Victims, and possible links to the spread of Agent Orange

A tough week – the Philippines, Indonesia, American Samoa, Laos, Cambodia, Thailand and of course, Vietnam.

(DA NANG, Vietnam) - Photo: Geoffrey Cain/IRIN At least 92 people were killed when Ketsana struck central Vietnam on Tuesday One thing amazes me during and after a natural disaster occurs – including those that have occurred in our own United States – has it ever occurred to anyone, or is it just me? Those that are mostly affected are those that need these disasters the least.

Not to minimize anyone on our planet, their resources, the destruction and devastation that they have experienced, but why is it that the poor, those that have been through so much, those who have to beg for a few Dong just to eat seem to be the most gravely affected? It’s been an impossible week for so many people, so many countries.

GI Bill: Veterans Bailed Out or Thrown Anchor?

Veterans are waiting long periods for college funding that has been promised to them, too long in some cases.

(SANTA ROSA, Calif.) - Salem-News.com Veterans from all over the country will be hitting the road on October 2, 2009, to collect "emergency payments" of up to $3,000 from the Department of Veterans Affairs (VA), making up for delays in the new Chapter 33 Post 9/11 GI Bill. While the new GI BIll is a great improvement over previous educational benefits, many veterans have yet to see any benefit, or money, at all. Many are taking out loans and incurring additional debt due to the delay.

According to the VA website, Secretary of Veterans Affairs Eric K. Shinseki announced the Department of Veterans Affairs (VA) has authorized checks for up to $3,000 to be given to students who have applied for educational benefits and who have not yet received their government payment.

Military Drug Abuse: It Can`t Function Without It

If the troops are not getting enough sleep and rest that they must use these stimulants, there is something glaringly wrong with the guys who wear stars on their shoulders.

(MOLALLA, Ore.) - Marine being arrested The Oregonian reported this on Sept. 7, 2009. This should surprise nobody. Recruits historically are TRAINED to use alcohol and tobacco from their first weeks in boot camp, at least in the Army. If it wasn’t for the beer tranquilizer in the PX the rookies probably couldn’t survive psychologically the crap which is shoveled on them. There’s gotta be some psychological escape if even for a few hours. On hourly(?) breaks, “smokum if you gottum” is almost biblical. Ok, do they still do that same crap now?

Lejeune Breast Cancer Victims Not Supported by Corps

So much for Semper Fi from the Corps’ leadership.

(CAMP LEJEUNE, N.C.) - Marines The Marine Corps threw the male breast cancer survivors under the bus on Friday night. On Friday's Campbell Brown show, the spokesman for the Corps (a Major General no less) danced around the issue of causality for the Lejeune Marines with male breast cancer.

He had it wrong. The VA does not require total proof of a service connection cause to award a compensation and disability pension.
