Are Gulf War Vets Getting Better VA Treatment Than the Vietnam Generation?

If you compare Vietnam vets and their ability to get through the disability process, with Gulf War vets, Vietnam vets lose by astounding figures.

(CINCINNATI, Ohio) - Salem-News.com One war lasted around ten years, and the other, just 4 days. One war had 47,000 combat deaths, the other had 147. However, there are 1.1 million Vietnam veterans on disability pensions and, according to the DVA, nearly 900,000 Gulf War I vets on pension.

In the gulf war, for every combat death there were over 6,000 disabled veterans. In Vietnam, for every combat KIA, there are 21 disabled veterans.

War Casualties in Afghanistan: Is There Any End in Sight?

The average age of the 28 individuals listed in this report is 25.6. This represents a higher average age than we have seen in the previous two reports.

(SALEM, Ore.) - War casualties If there is one thing I look forward to as a reporter, it is the day that we don't have to issue reports about large numbers of Americans losing their lives in the fighting overseas. I try in these reports to examine these losses from different angles, and when possible note any patterns.

The only thing that immediately stands out in this report, is that the majority of the fallen hail from states that supported George W. Bush's politics. It seems apparent that the families in these states back the war efforts that Bush launched, and noteworthy that they also pay the highest price.

Kuwait Cancels $17 Billion Joint Venture with Dow Chemical

Kuwait on Sunday scrapped a deal to form a $17.4 billion petrochemical joint venture with U.S. firm Dow Chemical , state news agency KUNA said.

(RIYADH, Saudi Arabia) - DOW The cancellation of the deal, which had met opposition in Kuwait's parliament, is a blow to the largest US chemicals firm which had planned to use the proceeds to repay a large part of $13 billion in debt it will have to shoulder once its acquisition of rival Rohm & Haas closes in early 2009.

U.S. Military Casualties Reported in Iraq, Afghanistan and Kuwait

The deaths of ten U.S. servicemen are announced by the Department of Defense.

(SALEM, Ore.) - Flag draped American coffins being returned from Iraq The Department of Defense has announced several deaths over the past two days in Iraq, servicemembers were also lost in Afghanistan and in Kuwait in one non-combat related incident.

Among the dead are three soldiers who were supporting Operation Iraqi Freedom died April 28th in Baghdad, Iraq, of wounds suffered when enemy forces attacked their forward operating base with indirect fire.
