(BROOKLYN, N.Y.) - Let me say from the outset that I have the greatest sympathy for 23-year-old Bowe R. Bergdahl, the US soldier in Afghanistan who was captured and is being held by Taliban forces, and for his family, who must be going through a living hell worrying about what is going to happen to him.

But I’m willing to bet you that all of them are wishing, right now, that the US had not decided back in 2001 to begin a campaign of torture and murder against the Taliban fighters that it was capturing in Afghanistan, and against others that it has rounded up in the so-called War on Terror.

(JORDAN VALLEY, Ore.) - Police say an Idaho man is in critical condition following a Wednesday night crash south of Jordan Valley where he reportedly almost hit an Oregon State Police trooper's patrol car before traveling off Highway 95 and rolling several times.

The ongoing investigation indicates alcohol is a possible contributing factor. The driver is identified as 41-year old Enrique Casas Valdez of Kuna, Idaho.

Idaho Bank Robbery Suspect Arrested After Oregon Freeway Chase

(EUGENE, Ore.) - Oregon State Police troopers arrested a man wanted on a bank robbery warrant out of the Pocatello, Idaho area Friday afternoon south of Cottage Grove, Oregon following what they say was an attempt to elude on Interstate 5.

"The man's attempt to flee ended after police deployed spike strips followed by a tactical vehicle intervention technique to get the car stopped," OSP Spokesman Lt. Gregg Hastings said.

2009 Minidoka Pilgrimage Honors Japanese-American Internee`s

The 2009 event will take place at the College of Southern Idaho.

(SEATTLE) - Sixty-seven years ago, during World War II, almost thirteen thousand people of Japanese ancestry, many of whom were American citizens, were forcibly removed from their homes in Washington, Oregon and Alaska, and sent to a desolate “internment camp” near Twin Falls, Idaho.

To commemorate this event, former internees, their families, friends, and those interested in this historic event will make a pilgrimage from Seattle and Portland to the former Minidoka Internment Camp from June 26-28, 2009.

(SALEM, Ore.) - Ahren Barnard vanished from Boise, Idaho on Saturday, December 4th 2004. His mom, Vicki Barnard, says she is holding out hope that someone knows what became of her son who is also a father of two beautiful children.

Ahren vanished when he returned to his home after dropping off his young son at his mother's home for the evening. Ahren had plans that evening and was going to pick up his son the next morning to continue their weekend visitation, his mom explains.

Group Sues to Protect Idaho`s Minidoka Japanese Interment Camp

A broad coalition of Idahoans and the National Trust for Historic Preservation Sue Jerome County Board of Commissioners over decision allowing factory farming near Minidoka National Historic Site.

(WASHINGTON, D.C.) - The National Trust for Historic Preservation today joined a broad coalition of Idahoans and state and national organizations as a co-plaintiff in a lawsuit appealing a decision by the Jerome County Board of Commissioners on September 23, 2008 to approve an application for a confined animal feeding operation, or 'CAFO' permit near the Minidoka National Historic Site in Idaho.

The National Trust for Historic Preservation joined with Japanese American Citizens League, Friends of Minidoka, Preservation Idaho, Idaho Concerned Area Residents for the Environment (ICARE), the Idaho Rural Council, and local farming families and landowners, the Dimonds and Slones, in filing the Petition for Judicial Review. These groups are deeply concerned about the consequences that this CAFO will have on adjacent property and Minidoka.

The petition challenges the Board’s approval based on its inadequate consideration of the impacts to Minidoka and private property, and exclusion of the opportunity for the coalition members to participate in the process in violation of their due process rights.
