Dash for Empty Bowls Fundraiser at Willamette Art Center

Last year, the fundraiser generated $13,600 for MPFS, $1,600 more than the previous year

(Salem, Oregon) - Empty Bowls and the Willamette Art Center When the doors open to Willamette Art Center on Saturday, Nov. 20, visitors will feast their eyes upon 1,000 handmade ceramic bowls that have been prepared all year long by 24 stalwart volunteers in preparation for Empty Bowls, an annual fundraiser benefiting Marion-Polk Food Share.

“Every year we make more bowls for food share. It’s amazing,” said WAC spokesperson Karin Putnam. “We want to be involved in giving back to our community. We feel really blessed at the center.”

Viva Palestina Convoy Breaks Siege and Engers Gaza to Jubilant Crowds

The Viva Palestina convoy of almost 150 vehicles, 370 people from 30 different countries and $5 million of aid has entered Gaza.

(GAZA CITY) - Viva Palestina Amidst scenes of jubilation from thousands of Palestinians there to greet the convoy, Kevin Ovenden, the convoy director, expressed his joy at being in Gaza once again.

The convoy set out four weeks and five days ago from London, travelling through France, Italy, Greece, Turkey and Syria, before reaching Gaza.

SELCO Employees Exceed Goal for Fall Food Drive

(EUGENE, Ore.) - SELCO Food Collection SELCO Community Credit Union employees reached out to their communities by donating nearly 6,000 pounds of food to four local food banks. With an initial goal of donating 3,500 pounds of food, SELCO employees exceeded this goal by more than 2,400 pounds.

A list of most-needed foods was published to all SELCO employees, each of whom were given a plastic shopping bag to fill and deposit in barrels placed throughout the branches and offices of SELCO Community Credit Union, its subsidiaries and business units. Food was collected and donated directly to the food bank closest to each branch. These included: NeighborImpact Food Bank (www.neighborimpact.org), Food for Lane County (www.foodforlanecounty.org), Linn Benton Food Share (www.csc.gen.or.us/foodshare.htm), and Marion Polk Food Share (www.marionpolkfoodshare.org).
