South Sudan: Attack at the Home of Human Rights Defender Mr Biel Boutros

Human Rights Ambassador for Salem-News.com, William Nicholas Gomes is concerned over the attack by state security forces on Biel Bourtos' home, as it appears to be directly targeted against him and his family.

(WASHINGTON, DC) - boutros-attack-wg On the night of 20 January 2014, more than 30 armed men believed to be part of the Sudan People's Liberation Army (SPLA) raided the house of human rights defender Mr Biel Boutros.

Biel Bourtos is the director of the South Sudan Human Rights Society for Advocacy (SSHURSA), a Juba-based, non-political, not-for-profit organisation that monitors and documents human rights violations in South Sudan and advocates for justice and the rights of vulnerable groups.

Justo Sorto was an active member for twenty years of the Consejo Cívico de Organizaciones Indígenas Populares – COPINH (Civic Council of Popular Indigenous Organisations).

(WASHINGTON, DC) - Human Rights Ambassador William Nicholas Gomes On the 3rd January 2014, four civilians were shot dead by military forces, at least 39 people were injured, including a 17 year old boy and a pregnant woman, and thirteen more men were arrested near Canadia Industrial Park on Veng Sreng road, Phnom Penh.

The previous day, during clashes between security forces and striking workers in front of Yak Jin factory on National Road 4, ten men were arrested by the Military Special Command Unit 911.

(RANGOON) - Hands cuffed Two international people have been contacted from inside Maungdaw that an order from NayPiDaw has been given to arrest all Rohingya males over 10 years old. Mass arrests have started in Maungdaw.

One of these witnesses has said that arrests have already started in Maungdaw. It is not clear if these arrests have occurred in the last 24 hours or include the Jan 14-17 mass arrests in Kiladaung and nearby villages last week.
