Hundreds Attend Launch of Occupy Salem

They want the richest citizens of this country, shielded from taxes in ways never seen in the country's past, to pay their fair share.

(SALEM, Ore.) - Occupy Salem The spirit of Salem sometimes steps up and surprises people and the Occupy Salem event that kicked off Monday is a great example.

Like Portland, where crowds swelled in excess of 10,000 during its opening last week, Salem saw a larger-than-anticipated turnout with several hundred attending its kick-off.

South Dakota Gov. Dennis Daugaard called for all residents of threatened areas in Pierre and Fort Pierre to evacuate their homes by 8 p.m.

(PIERRE, S.D.) - Homeless animal Animal rescue experts are ready to take in pets projected to be affected by South Dakota flooding of the Missouri River this weekend.

Animal rescue organizations will rescue domestic animals affected by the floods and provide them with temporary shelter.

Fire Devstates Amity Apartment Building

It took firefighters an hour and a half to get the blaze under control.

(AMITY, Ore.) - Amity, Oregon apartment fire 25 Feb 2011 An apartment fire in Amity Friday night led to the total destruction of a building that has long been a part of this rural town in the Mid-Willamette Valley between Salem and McMinnville.

Local resident Paul Hendrix says a number of people live in the multi-level apartment building but luckily there were no injuries. The fire destroyed a building containing both apartments and businesses, a spokesperson with the Amity Fire Department told reporters.

A national think tank reports that as a result of welfare reform 15 years ago, Oregon is helping far fewer poor families than it once did.
