I-84 Re-opened Following Commercial Truck Crash Involving Hazardous Materials Transportation East of Baker City

The injured driver, Ronald Hanes, age 61, from Sacramento, California, was picked up by a passing vehicle with four occupants that drove upon the scene.

(BAKER CITY) - Hazmat crash on I-84 in Eastern Oregon A stretch of Interstate 84 that was closed east of Baker City following a traffic crash involving a commercial truck transporting hazardous materials early Sunday morning is now open to traffic in both directions.

The truck was pulling a trailer transporting a toxic hazardous material and HazMat personnel have clean up the scene to the point allowing eastbound traffi c to resume following the earlier opening of westbound lanes.

But when they arrived, the Russian Coast Guard fired warning shots and threatened the activists' lives. Then, Russian Coast Guard officers illegally boarded and seized the Greenpeace ship Arctic Sunrise via helicopter.

After nearly two weeks since the action started, the Russian authorities charged 28 international activists, one independent photographer and one independent videographer with piracy. They are to be detained on these charges for two months.

Federal Court Orders EPA to Move Forward on Coal Ash Regulations

Judge to Offer More Details in the Next 30 Days, But Takes First Step Towards Federal Enforceable Safeguards

(WASHINGTON DC) - Coal ash pollution A federal judge agreed with environmental and public health groups that the Environmental Protection Agency needs to set federal regulations for the safe and proper disposal of toxic coal ash. The groups filed the lawsuit in April 2012 challenging the EPA’s lack of federal regulations for America’s second largest industrial waste stream.

Orphan Snowy Plover Chicks and Adult Set for Release on Oregon Coast

The western snowy plover is a native shore bird that lives on the beach year-round.

(NEWPORT, OR) - Oregon Coast Aquarium Five abandoned snowy plover chicks and a rehabilitated adult male are being released back to the wild by the U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service and partners.

The birds, federally and state listed as threatened, were rescued in early July by plover monitors from the Institute for Natural Resources, Portland State University and U.S. Forest Service staff.
